In the extra minutes of the 2025 U23 Southeast Asian final, coach Kim Sang-sik (U23 Vietnam) prevented a quick throw-in from U23 Indonesia to slow down the pace of the match and received a yellow card from the referee. Instead of reacting harshly, the Korean strategist suddenly clasped his hands and bowed to the referee.

Not stopping there, the U23 Vietnam coaching staff also showed their wisdom by continuously placing water bottles right next to the sideline. This is considered a calculated tactic, aimed at hindering the opponent's momentum for powerful throw-ins.

The impatience caused an Indonesian assistant coach to run onto the field and kick the water bottles. He was immediately given a red card by the referee.

A series of tense situations contributed to reducing the excitement and breaking the concentration of the home team U23 Indonesia, thereby successfully preserving the final victory of 1-0 for U23 Vietnam.

On the evening of July 29, the U23 Vietnam team defeated U23 Indonesia 1-0 in the final of the 2025 Southeast Asian Championship at Bung Karno Stadium. Nguyen Cong Phuong, a player who had only started since the semi-finals, shone with the only goal, helping U23 Vietnam win the Southeast Asian championship for the third consecutive time.
