Coach Mai Duc Chung is the most successful coach in women's football in Southeast Asia.

According to the ASEAN FOOTBALL website, in the past 10 years, coach Mai Duc Chung, now 71 years old, has become the most successful coach of women's football in Southeast Asia.

Coach Mai Duc Chung's latest achievement was helping the Vietnamese women's team rank 5th overall at the 2022 Women's Asian Cup in India, thereby deservingly winning a ticket to the 2023 FIFA World Cup.

This is also the first time in the history of Vietnamese women's football to participate in the World Cup, after the painful failure to qualify (the 2015 World Cup in Canada) at Thong Nhat Stadium when losing 1-2 to rival Thailand in the 5th place match of the Women's Asian Cup in May 2014.

However, in this year's tournament, veteran coach Mai Duc Chung did not repeat the sadness of 8 years ago when in the play-off round, he and the Vietnamese women's team took revenge on rival Thailand with a 2-0 victory, before defeating Taiwan 2-1 to deservedly win a ticket to the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

This achievement and other achievements with the Vietnamese women's team have helped coach Mai Duc Chung become the most successful coach of women's football in Southeast Asia in the past 10 years, according to the ASEAN FOOTBALL page.

Specifically, in addition to the 2023 World Cup, Coach Mai Duc Chung also led the Vietnamese women's team to the top 4 of the 2014 Asian Games, won the SEA Games women's football gold medal 4 times in 2003, 2005, 2017 and 2019. They also won the 2019 AFF Women's Regional Cup.

In addition to women's football, in his career as a coach at men's football clubs in the V-League, the most notable achievement of coach Mai Duc Chung was leading Becamex Binh Duong Club to the semi-finals of the AFC Cup in 2009. He was also the interim coach of the Vietnamese national team twice, the most recent time in October 2017 before transferring to coach Park Hang-seo to achieve the current success.
