After 10 years of working as a migrant worker, Mr. Huynh Ut Lanh, residing in Ta Keo Vam quarter, Vinh Thong ward, returned to his hometown to start a business from his family's 2,500m2 garden plot. Mr. Lanh shared: "Seeing that the garden plot was left empty and the grass was growing, it took time to clean up, so I made beds to grow crops. At first, I had no experience, so I tried growing cucumbers. Later, I participated in a vegetable growing training class organized by the ward Youth Union, from which I expanded to intercropping with more varieties such as bitter melon, squash, luffa, etc." Currently, Mr. Lanh also rents about 3,000m2 of land to grow crops. In addition to his main income from growing rice, Mr. Lanh now has additional income from growing crops, contributing to stabilizing his family's life. Mr. Lanh said he will continue to participate in training classes on straw mushroom growing techniques and other farming and growing classes to expand and improve the effectiveness of this model.
Vinh Thong Ward currently has more than 6,000 young people, of which about 1/3 are ethnic minorities. Most of the ethnic minority youth in the area develop their economy from agriculture, growing crops, raising livestock, and some work as workers in industrial parks inside and outside the province. Mr. Truong Hoai Khanh - Secretary of Vinh Thong Ward Youth Union said: "In recent years, the Ward Youth Union has paid attention to and integrated support for union members and ethnic minority youth to develop their family economy through activities such as: Training skills, transferring science and technology, encouraging start-ups, and accessing preferential loans. Some typical economic models such as growing fruit trees, raising livestock, and aquaculture have been implemented. In the coming time, the Ward Youth Union will coordinate with specialized sectors to support ethnic minority youth in converting the structure of crops and livestock, training in start-up skills, accessing preferential loans, and building good models for learning."
In order to support ethnic minority youth in economic development, the Provincial Youth Union has implemented many meaningful and practical programs and activities, including the national target program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas. Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, President of the Vietnam Youth Union of the province, Thi Phuong Hong, said: “In the coming time, the Provincial Youth Union will continue to promote start-up and career movements among union members and youth, especially ethnic minority youth. At the same time, direct the commune-level Youth Union system to maintain economic models and cooperatives led by youth; mobilize capital sources to support youth with production models and plans. Through activities to support youth in developing and expanding models, it will contribute to increasing income and household economy.”
To accompany and support ethnic minority youth in starting a business, the Youth Union and Association in the province have implemented many programs, with orientation, job creation and support for youth in borrowing capital for production and business. Youth start-up clubs maintain connection activities, support members who are ethnic minorities in knowledge training, marketing and product consumption.
Recently, the Central Youth Union coordinated with the Provincial Youth Union to organize a series of exhibition fairs to introduce and promote products created by young entrepreneurs, displaying agricultural products, OCOP products, handicrafts, local specialties and digital technology products of young people in ethnic minority areas. The fair creates a space to connect product consumption and expand the market. This is also an opportunity for cooperatives, businesses, and youth households to exchange, learn and introduce regional cultural identities to a large number of people and tourists.
Within the framework of the program, the Provincial Youth Union organized a dialogue and connection between young entrepreneurs with businesses, investors and the Provincial Young Entrepreneurs Association. Delegates discussed key issues such as access to capital, skills training, application of digital technology in production, business and connecting product consumption markets. This is an important opportunity for ethnic minority youth to directly meet and exchange with experts and businesses, thereby expanding cooperative relationships, improving the ability to start a business and establish a sustainable career.
