Calophyllum inophyllum L., also known as Calophyllum inophyllum L., belongs to the Clusiaceae family.
Since 2014, Da Nang city has had a policy of selecting the candlenut tree into the list of trees to plant to create street landscapes. In addition, because it is a candlenut tree species with the ability to grow 20 - 25m high, with an average diameter of 30 - 35cm, in addition to creating landscapes, the candlenut tree has a very wide shade coverage area.
It has been noted that in recent afternoons, there have been many Korean people and tourists coming to the stone benches on the Bach Dang extension - where rows of candleberry trees are planted - to sit and relax, admire the trees and show their delight at the clusters of pure white flowers showing off their shape on the branches.
Tourist Park Ji-in (Korea) shared: "In my hometown, this type of tree (canarium) is rare, so this is the first time I have seen this tree when traveling to Da Nang. It is planted in rows right next to the riverbank, next to each corner of the tree there is a stone bench, very suitable for us to sit and relax on afternoons like this, it is wonderful".
According to the Vietnamese Medicinal Plant Dictionary, the candlenut tree is also used to treat stomachache, acne, detoxification, toothache, gingivitis, rheumatism, kidney failure, weakness... Candlenut is a large tree used as pillars to build houses, or sawn to make planks to make cabinets, tables... Fallen candlenut leaves are gathered and burned to repel mosquitoes. To light up, people pick up fallen candlenut fruits, dry them, thread them and burn them or press oil to light lamps. Candlenut lamps shine in poor neighborhoods, lighting up the hope of changing lives.
