On the afternoon of the third day of Tet, at exactly 1:45 a.m., the Prime Minister's motorcade arrived at the project site after he landed from Hanoi .

Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, Minister and Chairman of the Government Office Tran Van Son, Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang, Minister of Construction Nguyen Thanh Nghi, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dang Quoc Khanh and leaders of several relevant ministries and branches... joined the delegation.

Upon arriving at the construction site, the Prime Minister cordially visited the staff and gave gifts and Tet lucky money to the workers. The Prime Minister was very happy to hear that many workers proactively asked to stay and work through Tet so that the project could be completed on time.

The Tan Son Nhat Airport Terminal 3 project is the first project that the delegation will inspect during their inspection of construction sites in the South. In the following days, the Prime Minister will inspect the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 project, the Long Thanh International Airport project and the Thi Vai - Cai Mep port.

After listening to the report from the investor - Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), the head of the Government requested the units to draw lessons in management and operation to bring the project to the finish line, making efforts to speed up the progress.

"Instead of dividing the bidding package, units should focus on 2-3 contractors and one general contractor to assign responsibilities and manage closely," said Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

He hopes that investors and contractors must complete the project by April 30, 2025 - the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification.

From the experience of Tan Son Nhat airport's T3 terminal, the Prime Minister said that units can draw lessons to do better at Long Thanh airport project.

"We need to learn from the coordination between the central and local governments, how to manage, and how to handle land with the military to speed up project progress," said the Prime Minister.

Currently, Tan Son Nhat Airport operates two terminals, one international and one domestic, with a designed capacity of 28 million passengers per year. The domestic terminal, after many renovations and expansions, has a designed capacity of 15 million passengers per year. However, the output of this terminal has exceeded 26 million passengers per year, overloading 1.7 times the designed capacity.

With an average growth rate of 14.5% per year in recent years, the domestic terminal is expected to be twice as overloaded by 2024.

Therefore, T3 terminal with a capacity of 20 million passengers/year is a key project to fundamentally solve the overload situation at Tan Son Nhat. In addition, the traffic system connecting T3 terminal in particular and Tan Son Nhat airport in general is also being accelerated for synchronous completion.

The T3 terminal project has a total investment of nearly 11,000 billion VND, an area of over 100,000m2, and is accelerating construction to connect to the road through Tan Son Nhat airport. When put into operation, T3 terminal will have two separate departure and arrival levels, 90 check-in counters, 20 automatic bagdrop counters, 42 check-in kiosks, 27 aircraft gates, 16 baggage conveyor islands, and 25 security control gates.

When completed, T3 terminal will ensure a capacity of 20 million passengers per year, increasing the capacity of Tan Son Nhat airport to 50 million passengers per year, meeting 7,000 passengers per peak hour. It is expected that T3 passenger terminal will complete its structure in May this year; the entire rough structure of the parking lot and commercial center will be completed in August, and put into operation in June 2025.

Mr. Le Khac Hong, Project Manager, said that the construction site currently has more than 1,400 workers. The investor is maintaining a construction pace of 14 hours per day.

Currently, at the project construction site, the joint venture contractor has erected 16 tower cranes, mobilized over 400 motorbikes, equipment and nearly 1,400 engineers and workers to carry out construction throughout the Lunar New Year to keep up with the project's progress.

The joint venture has completed the second floor of the passenger terminal on the aircraft parking side. All structural components and roof structure installation will be completed in May.

The project to build Passenger Terminal T3 and the Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa connecting road (Tan Binh District, Ho Chi Minh City) is part of the group of important national projects in the transport sector. These projects, once completed, will contribute to improving the transport infrastructure system, reducing traffic congestion inside and outside the currently overloaded airport.
