After many days submerged in water due to storm No. 11, on the morning of October 13, students of Trung Vuong Primary and Secondary School (Phan Dinh Phung Ward, Thai Nguyen Province) returned to class.
The prolonged heavy rain caused two schools located in low-lying residential areas of Phan Dinh Phung ward to be deeply flooded, with the entire first floor submerged in water. Hundreds of desks, chairs, teaching equipment and books were severely damaged.
When the water receded, mud covered the school yard, garbage and a musty smell made the recovery work very difficult. Staff, teachers, parents, military forces, police, youth union members and local people worked continuously for many days to clean, disinfect and repair the facilities.
“The school feels fortunate to have received timely support from agencies, organizations and colleagues everywhere. Currently, the classrooms have been basically cleaned and are ready to welcome students back,” said Ms. Nguyen Thanh Mai, Principal of Trung Vuong Primary School.
On October 9 and 10, hundreds of people were mobilized to help overcome the consequences at Trung Vuong Primary School. In addition to teachers and school staff, there were also armed forces and youth union members joining hands to support.
In particular, nearly 80 teachers from other schools also volunteered to help. Some teachers from the northern communes of the province traveled more than 60 km to join their colleagues.
Thanks to everyone's cooperation, this morning, the Trung Vuong school yard was cleaner, tables and chairs were neatly arranged, and the moldy walls were cleaned. Students were excited to return to school after many days of interruption.
“We are very touched to see the children safely and happily coming to class. There are many difficulties, but as long as the students can study in a safe environment, that is the greatest happiness for the teachers,” said Ms. Mai.
At Trung Vuong Secondary School, classes have been temporarily restored and students have returned to normal classes. The first class after the flood was spent on stabilizing the mind, cleaning the classroom and reviewing old lessons.

Recently, due to the impact of storm No. 11, heavy rains over a wide area in the northern mountainous provinces have caused serious flooding in Thai Nguyen province. High floods have severely damaged the infrastructure, teaching equipment, and landscape of many schools, affecting the organization of teaching and learning.
In recent days, teachers at many schools in Thai Nguyen have been actively pushing mud and cleaning up after the flood so they can welcome children back to school soon and stabilize teaching and learning.
On October 13, most educational institutions in Thai Nguyen province resumed teaching after the flood, with many flexible forms, suitable to the actual situation.
Many schools have welcomed students to in-person classes; some are offering online learning, a combination of in-person and online learning, or sending video lectures for students to review at home.
For boarding schools, bringing meals to school in some units is implemented to ensure food safety and hygiene, creating favorable conditions for students to study stably.
According to statistics, the whole province still has more than 10 schools out of 160 schools that cannot organize direct teaching, including: Tuc Duyen Primary School, Tuc Duyen Secondary School, Nha Trang Primary School, Kha Son Kindergarten, Quang Vinh Kindergarten, Quang Vinh Primary School, Quang Vinh Secondary School, Chien Thang Primary School, Na Ri Secondary Boarding School, PDA Kindergarten and PDA Primary School... These schools are urgently repairing facilities and cleaning classrooms, and are expected to welcome students back to school on October 14 or 15.
