NDO - On January 13, in a lively and exciting atmosphere, Russian-specialized students of the Foreign Language High School, University of Foreign Languages, Vietnam National University, Hanoi attended the Russian Open Class with the theme "Old Russian New Year". This is an opportunity for students to both improve their foreign language knowledge and learn about the culture and traditions of Russia.


Not only learning a new language, Russian language classes at the Specialized Language School are also an opportunity for students to explore the unique culture of one of the most influential countries in the world. Open classes with topics such as cuisine, holidays, music , painting, etc. are opportunities for students to approach this knowledge in the most vivid and intimate way.

In the atmosphere of welcoming the New Year, the Open Russian Lessons event gave students the opportunity to learn about a unique Russian holiday - the Old New Year (“Старый Новый год”). This is the time when Russians gather with family and friends and organize New Year parties in a bustling, joyful and warm atmosphere.

During this open lesson, students learned about the history and significance of the New Year celebration according to the old calendar and practiced some Russian vocabulary and sentence structures related to this topic. In addition, they also participated in the intellectual game “Ring the Golden Bell”. This game helps students consolidate their knowledge of Russian grammar and vocabulary, and practice their ability to reason quickly.

Sharing with reporters, Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Lan, a teacher at Foreign Language High School, said that through open lessons like this, she wants to convey to students not only a love for the Russian language but also a love for Russian culture.

Besides the lessons, the students also enjoyed enjoying traditional Russian dishes such as Russian salad, beetroot soup, pelmeni...

With open classes like this, the Foreign Language School not only contributes to developing students' language skills but also creates a creative learning environment, helping them become global citizens, understanding and loving different cultures, thereby broadening their vision and future opportunities.

“New Year’s Eve according to the old calendar” is a special festival, taking place on the night of January 13 and the morning of January 14, marking the transition between the Julian calendar and the Gregorian calendar. “New Year’s Eve according to the old calendar” is maintained not only in Russia, but also in Greece, Serbia, Montenegro, Algeria, Tunisia…
