Captain Nguyen Thi Thuy Ha is a Level 1 Field Hospital Nurse of the 3rd Engineering Brigade, currently serving in peacekeeping missions with UNISFA in the Abyei region of Africa.
Captain Ha and her team's schedule included practical activities and the spreading of a green message on June 5th – World Environment Day.
Vietnamese Green Berets have cleaned up the barracks area and surrounding regions; promoted and implemented waste sorting, planted trees, and disseminated environmental knowledge to local people and forces within the Mission. These small but meaningful actions have attracted the active participation of all officers, staff, and many international members working at the UNISFA Mission.

Captain Nguyen Thi Thuy Ha said that this was the first time she had celebrated World Environment Day in Africa and felt very happy to be able to contribute a small part to the big cause – preserving and spreading the greenness of the environment, and especially to have the opportunity to bond with her teammates, local people and children.
"I felt greatly motivated by the eager eyes of the local people, especially the children, as they participated in planting trees and cleaning up the environment," Captain Ha shared.
Together with his teammates, Captain Ha believes that building a sustainable environmental protection awareness in the community must begin with small actions, through each awareness campaign and setting a good example.

Preserving the green planet – peace
Joining in the action on World Environment Day, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Duy Nam – Commander of the Logistics and Support Detachment of the 3rd Engineering Brigade – shared that the harsh climate conditions, the lack of infrastructure in Abyei, and the limited environmental awareness of the local people pose significant challenges, further requiring the forces to overcome difficulties and promote positive changes in the local community.
The activities in response to World Environment Day clearly demonstrate the commitment of the 3rd Engineering Battalion, not only to fulfilling its peacekeeping duties but also to working together with the international community to protect the green environment. "Through this, we want to send a message that maintaining peace for the world is linked to preserving the greenness of the planet," Lieutenant Colonel Nam expressed.

In addition to environmental activities, the 3rd Engineering Battalion had previously made significant contributions to raising awareness and improving the lives of the people of Abyei through extensive and sustainable community outreach activities. The unit donated equipment, school supplies, and educational materials to schools in the area, helping children have better learning conditions.
The team also directly renovated and upgraded the infrastructure of the local Ministry of Information, Culture, Youth and Sports, serving community cultural activities and youth development.
The team also repaired and upgraded many local roads in hard-to-reach areas, facilitating travel, trade, and community connectivity.
In the field of healthcare, the team's officers and medical personnel regularly collaborate with the Mission's military medical unit and Abyei Hospital to organize free medical examinations, provide free medicine, and promote health care to the local population, especially women and children – the most vulnerable groups in the conflict zone.
These practical and humanitarian contributions have been recognized and highly appreciated by the UNISFA Mission and the Abyei Special Administrative Region government, and are considered a model of effective civilian outreach within the framework of United Nations peacekeeping operations.
Through specific and meaningful actions and tasks, the 3rd Engineering Team continuously leaves a strong mark as a professional peacekeeping force, spreading the positive image of the Ho Chi Minh Army and Vietnam in Africa.
