On October 27th, a handover ceremony for the Banton Bridge took place in Abyei. The bridge was repaired and restored by the "blue beret" soldiers of the 4th Engineering Brigade of Vietnam (part of the United Nations Interim Security Mission in Abyei - UNISFA).
This is not just a simple transportation project, but a symbol of connection, hope, and the effort to build peace in this still divided land.

At the handover ceremony, Colonel Alexander De Lima, Chief of Military Staff of the UNISFA Mission, expressed his appreciation and high regard for the repair of the Banton Bridge, which was completed "in just one week." He called it "a commendable testament to the rapid and efficient work," and the direct link between infrastructure and security.
"Each of these outcomes directly contributes to peace, because when people have opportunities and hope, peace becomes more sustainable," the colonel said.
Meanwhile, Alal Nyang County Governor Doldol Nyang viewed the bridge as "proof of the United Nations' concern and Vietnam's affection for the Abyei region."
In particular, the Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Public Services, Mr. Kon Maneit Matiok, praised the "admirable performance, discipline and work ethic" of the Vietnamese blue beret soldiers.

According to the 4th Engineering Battalion, the Banton Bridge is not just a road; it is a strategic "lifeline," a single transportation route that directly affects the security, economy , and lives of the people in Abyei.
The severe deterioration of the bridge over a long period of time has caused numerous difficulties for UNISFA's patrol operations, disrupted people's movement, and hampered humanitarian relief efforts.

In that context, the task of repairing the Banton bridge was assigned to the 4th Engineering Battalion of Vietnam. As soon as they received the mission to "rescue" the bridge, the "green beret" soldiers immediately got to work.
Overcoming difficulties with materials, weather, and construction conditions, with their technical skills, creativity, and determination, the soldiers miraculously "revived" the bridge.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Trinh Van Cuong, commander of the 4th Engineering Team, as peacekeeping soldiers of the UNISFA mission, his and his comrades' mission is not only to help protect peace, but also to contribute to building peace – little by little, brick by brick.

"Today, through this bridge, we are proud to make a sustainable contribution to that noble mission," said Lieutenant Colonel Trinh Van Cuong.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Cuong, the Banton Bridge not only holds strategic value but also represents a humanistic "lifeline," a path of hope, dialogue, and trust that the Vietnamese "blue beret" soldiers have painstakingly built.
