Vietnam Journalists Association requests clarification on threats against Rural Economy Magazine reporters

Accordingly, the Vietnam Journalists Association received document No. 340/KTNT-CHNB dated July 21, 2023 from the Journalists Association of Rural Economics Magazine regarding the incident in which a reporter was threatened while working.

Official dispatch of the Vietnam Journalists Association sent to the Hanoi People's Committee and the Director of the Hanoi Police Department requesting protection for reporters and members while working.

Specifically, reporter Nguyen Duc Thang, a member of the Vietnam Journalists Association of the Rural Economics Magazine, went to work as assigned by the Editorial Board to investigate and verify the reflections of farmers living in Hai Boi commune, Dong Anh district (Hanoi) related to illegal sand mining activities causing landslides on cultivated land, affecting people's lives.

During the reporter's work, an unidentified person called and made insulting and threatening comments. The threatening behavior of the person affected the reporter's spirit and life, creating a sense of insecurity for reporters from press agencies working in the area.

To protect the legal right to practice and the honor and dignity of journalists, the Vietnam Journalists Association requests that your agency direct functional units to investigate, clarify the incident, and strictly handle before the law the subject who threatened the reporter while he was working.
