On April 5, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (Hanoi), the People's Committee of Sa Pa town organized a workshop on Solutions for developing the Sa Pa National Tourism Area into a unique, attractive, friendly, and professional one - towards a clean ASEAN tourist city. This activity is part of the series of events "Sa Pa Cultural Tourism Festival in Hanoi".
Attending the workshop were leaders of the Vietnam Tourism Association, Vietnam National Tourism Administration, Department of Cultural Heritage; leaders of Sa Pa Town People's Committee, Lao Cai Province Tourism Association along with experts, scientists , domestic and international travel companies.

Reporting at the workshop, Mr. To Ngoc Lien, Chairman of the People's Committee of Sa Pa town, said: With the joint efforts of the Party Committee, the government, businesses and the local community, Sa Pa's tourism activities are increasingly developing in both quality and quantity. Many places in Sa Pa have been evaluated and voted with impressive titles such as: 1/50 most beautiful towns in the world ; 1/14 destinations to explore when coming to Asia; 1/10 most attractive tourist destinations in Southeast Asia... Some typical tourism products of Sa Pa have been positioned on the world tourism map: 1/7 most beautiful and majestic terraced fields in the world; 1/10 most beautiful trails in the world, the most challenging Mountain Marrathon in Asia...

With these advantages, the Vietnam Tourism Development Strategy to 2020, with a vision to 2030, issued in Decision No. 2473/QD-TTg, dated December 30, 2011 by the Prime Minister, identified Sa Pa as one of 45 potential areas to develop into a national tourist area and one of 12 tourist cities in Vietnam.

However, in addition to the achievements, in recent years, Sa Pa tourism has also revealed a number of limitations and challenges such as: The rapid growth in the number of visitors puts pressure on infrastructure; the development of projects and construction works affects ecological balance and landscape; the rapid urbanization process reduces the traditional cultural space of ethnic minorities; high risk of environmental pollution. Specialized tourism facilities and tourism products have not met the needs of tourists; human resources are still lacking and weak, professionalism is not high, especially after the Covid-19 pandemic; community tourism is not clear, the situation of children soliciting, clinging and begging has not been completely resolved...

At the workshop, delegates discussed and contributed ideas to guide the development strategy of Sa Pa tourism in the coming time. The ideas will be documents and scientific arguments to help Sa Pa town research, absorb and synthesize into important groups of solutions, guiding the development strategy of Sa Pa tourism to be more unique, attractive, friendly, professional - towards the ASEAN Clean Tourism City in the coming time.
