Sharing at the launching ceremony of tissue and organ donation registration organized by the Central ENT Hospital in collaboration with the Vietnam Medical Trade Union and the Vietnam Association for Organ and Tissue Donation on the afternoon of March 25, Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Tuan Canh, Director of the Central ENT Hospital, said that the number of people registering to donate tissues and organs is still very modest compared to the need for organ transplants of patients.
As a leading specialized hospital, the Central ENT Hospital is not only a pioneer in medical examination and treatment, but also has the responsibility of pioneering humanitarian activities, spreading positive values of life. The hospital launched a program to register for organ and tissue donation among all staff, doctors, and medical staff and called for response from the community. Each organ and tissue donation registration card is a commitment, a hope, a journey of humanity to be continued.
Mr. Nguyen Hoang Phuc, Deputy Director of the National Organ Transplant Coordination Center, Vice President of the Vietnam Association for Human Tissue and Organ Donation, said that with the increasing demand for organ and tissue transplants, while the source of donations has not met the demand, many patients with organ and tissue failure have not been able to wait until they have organs and tissues for transplants, or when they do, they are not eligible for transplants.
Delegates press the button to register for organ and tissue donation at the Central Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital.
Therefore, to contribute to increasing the source of donated tissues and organs from brain-dead people, the Vietnam Association for Promoting Human Tissue and Organ Donation and the National Organ Transplant Coordination Center have coordinated with many agencies, organizations and units to implement many communication programs, promoting tissue and organ donation to medical facilities and the community to promote the source of donated tissues and organs to save many patients.
According to Mr. Phuc, the Central Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital is the first central hospital that has not yet organized tissue and organ transplants, but has launched a movement to donate tissues and organs, showing determination and solidarity with the Vietnam Organ and Tissue Donation Association.
More than 200 doctors, nurses and medical staff of the Central Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital registered to donate organs.
According to Mr. Phuc, since the beginning of the year, the whole country has had 21 cases of consent to donate organs after brain death, equal to half of 2024. After the Prime Minister launched the movement to register for organ and tissue donation in May 2024, up to now, the whole country has established 17 branches to mobilize organ and tissue donation.
"The whole country has more than 100,000 people registered to donate organs and tissues; in 2024 alone, more than 20,000 people registered. Although not many, this is a very good start. We hope that in the coming time, the number of people registering to donate organs and tissues will increase," Mr. Phuc hoped and said that people who want to register to donate organs can register online on the website of the National Organ Transplant Coordination Center, which is very convenient.
At the event, the message "Giving is forever" was not only spread by words but also realized by practical actions. More than 200 doctors and medical staff of the Central Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital registered to donate tissues and organs. This demonstrated the spirit of humanity, social responsibility and the pioneering spirit of the medical team in encouraging the community to join hands for the lives of patients.
