According to data from the National Hydrometeorological Network Center (Department of Hydrometeorology), last night and early this morning, the unit's radar system recorded tens of thousands of lightning strikes to the ground and lightning in the clouds on land, at sea and in neighboring areas of Vietnam.
Lightning strikes are mainly concentrated in the midland and mountainous provinces of the North such as Phu Tho, Tuyen Quang, Yen Bai, Ha Giang, the provinces of the Red River Delta such as Hai Phong, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh, Hai Duong, Hanoi and the Gulf of Tonkin area.
Between 1:30 a.m. and 5 a.m. on April 25, it is estimated that there were more than 23,200 lightning strikes to the ground and in the clouds, of which more than 10,400 were to the ground.
Previously, between 10:30 p.m. and 11:20 p.m. on April 24, more than 7,500 lightning strikes were recorded in the clouds and on the ground.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting predicts that on April 25, the Northern region will continue to have showers and scattered thunderstorms, with some places experiencing heavy to very heavy rain with rainfall of 15-30 mm, and some places over 80 mm.
In addition, in the afternoon and evening of April 25, in the Central Highlands and the South, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with rainfall of 10 - 30 mm, in some places over 60 mm.
The meteorological agency warns that thunderstorms may cause tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.
Localized heavy rains are likely to cause flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on steep slopes and waterlogging in low-lying areas.
