Singer Dinh Van

During the historic days of April, music lovers in Ho Chi Minh City all remembered singer Dinh Van. Because he was a musical icon in the early years of the country's reunification, with a thin body holding a guitar, a deep voice, and very worldly glasses, Dinh Van had many songs that touched people's hearts.

Meeting him during the preparation for the Anthology of 50 selected songs from the "The Country is Full of Joy" Composition Campaign organized by the Lao Dong Newspaper , he confided a lot about the song he wrote to participate and was selected for publication. "I am very moved, because this is a beautiful memory, marking 50 years of being attached to art, music and songs written about the city. I am proud that a part of my life has been devoted, I have been passionate and continue to give today's audience generation new compositions, including the song " Ho Chi Minh , my city" - singer Dinh Van sincerely confided.

He was born in 1956 in Ho Chi Minh City and started his music career quite early, emerging in the 1980s with a soulful, soulful voice, full of emotions and close to the public. He is known for his warm, powerful baritone voice, very suitable for songs with the sound of homeland, revolution and love for the country. In addition to being a singer, he also composed many famous songs, loved by the public.

Traditional revolutionary songs associated with Dinh Van's name: "My City", "Flowers on the Fire Line", "Sing About Me", "Please Rest Assured, Mom"... He regularly participates in performing in traditional music programs and major anniversary festivals of the city.

Singer Bich Phuong commented: "Mr. Dinh Van's musical style is imbued with traditional features, harmoniously combining folk music and lyrical elements, contributing to reviving revolutionary songs in the hearts of young audiences. He is considered one of the typical voices of the red music genre after 1975."

His voice is not loud, not trendy, but has a special persuasive power. With a warm, expressive baritone voice, each song he performs is like a gentle confession, stirring up deep emotions in the hearts of listeners.

Musician Pham Minh Tuan commented: "Dinh Van is not only a singer, but also a composer of many songs associated with the image of soldiers, mothers, homeland and memories of war. His compositions do not shout or exaggerate but go straight to the heart with sincere, simple but extremely profound emotions. He is a storyteller through music."

For the soldiers who once fought on the southwestern border battlefield, they love Dinh Van's voice because when they listen to him, it's like they're listening to a slow, emphatic story, making them imagine the historical context and the silent characters who built and protected the country.

Singer Dinh Van

Without much media noise, without appearing in many music game shows or reality TV shows, singer Dinh Van still regularly performs in art programs celebrating major holidays, community activities, serving people in remote areas and border and island soldiers. Recently, he made an impressive appearance at the 3rd Music Exchange program organized by Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper.

He does not see music as a means to become famous, but as a mission to inspire and preserve cultural values.

Singer Dinh Van once shared: "I don't need to be famous, I just need the songs I sing to touch the hearts of listeners. In the moment marking the 50 years that revolutionary music has lived with the audience generation, I am happy because I have been present in the life of the red music genre that exists and spreads." Perhaps, it is this ideology that has helped him to persist and shine in the hearts of audiences for many decades.

With his silent but lasting contributions to revolutionary and traditional music, singer Dinh Van deserves to be called "the keeper of the fire" - the one who preserves the soul and national identity through every melody, every lyric, every breath of his homeland.
