Meeting to introduce the book "Place names in Binh Duong"

(BDO) On the afternoon of May 23, the Provincial Historical Science Association (KHLS) held a meeting to introduce the book “Place Names in Binh Duong”. Attending were Mr. Nguyen Hoang Thao, former Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Doan Van Dong, Deputy Head of the Provincial Party Committee’s Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department, and scientists inside and outside the province.

The book "Place names in Binh Duong " is the result of a team of researchers, compilers and editors for nearly 3 years, edited by Dr. Huynh Ngoc Dang, Chairman of the Provincial Historical Science Association, and published by the People's Public Security Publishing House.

In 2021, the Provincial Association of Historical Sciences was assigned by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to carry out a provincial-level scientific and technological task "Researching place names in Binh Duong province".

After 18 months of surveying, collecting, and researching landmarks in 91 communes, wards, and towns across the province, by July 2023, the project was evaluated and accepted by the Department of Science and Technology with excellent results.

In order to disseminate the results of the research project, Binh Duong Provincial Party Committee has decided to publish the project "Place names in Binh Duong" based on the results of the project "Research on place names in Binh Duong province".

Through that, all levels, sectors, researchers, students, people who live, work and love Binh Duong land can grasp the meaning of the formation of land names, village names, river names, streams... common place names that can be close, familiar and also place names with historical and scholarly significance; at the same time, enhance the applicability of social science and humanities research projects.

The book is over 2,000 pages thick, with nearly 3,000 entries and over 4,160 subcategories of place names arranged by commune, ward and town in 9 districts, towns and cities of Binh Duong province. Readers can find new insights in the book in addition to familiar folk explanations.

The book is considered a historical and cultural map in language, reflecting the process of formation of the land, people, communities, stages of struggle, development, characteristics of terrain, climate, economy , flora and fauna of Binh Duong province...

Speaking at the book launch, Dr. Huynh Ngoc Dang shared that in the context of merging provinces and cities to create room for development and help the country grow, many place names may fade away, leaving many regrets about the names of lands that are so familiar.

The book “Place names in Binh Duong” will preserve community memories, promote internal strength and social resources; be the basis for naming new administrative units to ensure harmony, objectivity, and historical continuity...

The book will preserve and send to future generations more than 4,000 historical and cultural memories of the province's place names. Therefore, he hopes that everyone will read, preserve and spread the sedimentary colors of the place names of Binh Duong land and people.

Dr. Huynh Ngoc Dang presented books to units to preserve and spread the cultural identity of Binh Duong land and people.

On this occasion, the Provincial Historical Sciences Association presented books to the Provincial Museum, the Provincial Library and the Department of Culture and Information of districts and cities in the province to continue preserving and spreading the cultural identities of Binh Duong land and people to more people in the coming time.
