Cooperation in developing tourism and cinema in Vietnam with Los Angeles City

(QBĐT) - A working delegation from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) of Vietnam, led by Mr. Ho An Phong, Deputy Minister of MCST, visited and worked with the leaders of the Los Angeles City government (California, USA).

This is an activity within the framework of the program to promote Vietnamese tourism and cinema in the United States with the theme "Vietnam - New destination of world cinema". Attending the event were representatives of leaders of ministries, departments, branches, localities, associations and film corporations and enterprises. On the side of Quang Binh province, there were comrade Phan Phong Phu, member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and representatives of the Department of Tourism.

Receiving the delegation of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam, on the side of the Los Angeles City government, there were Ms. Erin Bromagim, Deputy Mayor in charge of Foreign Affairs; Ms. An Tran, General Manager of the Mayor's Office; Mr. Danied Rodman, Head of the International Events Department; Mr. Wajenda Chambeslei, Head of the International Relations Department and officials of the Los Angeles City government.

Speaking at the meeting, Comrade Ho An Phong thanked the leaders of the Los Angeles City government for their warm welcome and congratulated the city on hosting the 2028 Olympic event. He said: “Vietnam-US bilateral cooperation is going well, marking an important milestone by the two countries establishing a comprehensive strategic partnership since 2023, creating favorable conditions for the two countries to cooperate and develop in many different fields.”

Los Angeles is one of the attractive tourist destinations, the center of the film industry and entertainment industry in the world and has had many cooperations with ministries, branches and localities of Vietnam.

This is also a city with a large Vietnamese population, many of whom regularly return to help their homeland. The Vietnamese Party and State always consider overseas Vietnamese an inseparable part and acknowledge their contributions to their homeland.

Pointing out the potential and advantages of tourism and cinema between the two sides, affirming that there is much room for tourism and cinema development between the two countries, comrade Ho An Phong suggested that the Los Angeles City government pay attention to strengthening cooperation with Vietnam in general and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in particular in the fields of culture and tourism. Especially in the fields of tourism and cinema, he suggested stronger connections, and early connection of direct flights between major cities of Vietnam and Los Angeles City.

The Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism hopes that with many years of experience in developing the cultural industry and film economy, Los Angeles will share its experience and support the implementation of the project of Vietnam's creative cities network in the UNESCO creative cities system. In the immediate future, it will support Ho Chi Minh City in building a profile to become a creative city in the UNESCO creative cities network in the field of cinema. The profile is expected to be submitted in 2025.

Expressing his honor to welcome the delegation of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam, the representative of the Los Angeles City government agreed with the need to promote cooperation in the field of culture, sports and tourism. Especially in the field of cinema, Mr. Danied Rodman said that this visit and work of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is an opportunity for both sides to promote cooperation and consider Los Angeles as an important partner.

Regarding the proposals of the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr. Daniel Rodman said: “The city is also planning to promote the opening of direct flights to cities in Vietnam. Hosting the 2028 Olympics is an opportunity for the city to welcome international visitors from all over the world and this is also an opportunity to expand cooperation with cities in Vietnam.”

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong said that in 2025, Vietnam plans to welcome Hollywood film studios to survey destinations, filming locations and tourism services. The two sides will jointly seek and promote opportunities for cooperation and development. He sent an invitation and looked forward to welcoming the leaders of Los Angeles City in Vietnam.
