Typical cooperatives in Sop Cop

After 7 years of establishment, Toan Duyen Agricultural Cooperative, Phong village, Sop Cop commune, with its sustainable development direction, has become a solid support for people in the Sop Cop border area.

With 10 initial members, the cooperative now has 32 members, providing regular jobs for 20 local workers and linking with 13 households through contracts to purchase mango, orange and tangerine products.

Mr. Tong Van Toan, Director of the Cooperative, informed: The Cooperative operates according to the new cooperative model with the main business lines being production, business, and services in the fields of agriculture, animal husbandry, and cultivation. Currently, the Cooperative members are planting and caring for 27 hectares of mango, orange, and tangerine; maintaining the raising of 80 buffaloes, cows, 100 pigs, more than 5,000 chickens and ducks; planting 50 hectares of forest and trading in fertilizers and animal feed.

The Cooperative promotes the application of technical advances in production, the care and harvesting processes are all applied according to VietGAP procedures. Cooperative members are trained and strictly follow safe production processes, from seed selection, soil management to the use of fertilizers, irrigation water, and care techniques. Currently, 100% of the Cooperative members use machinery in the care of fruit trees; invest in installing irrigation systems for more than 8 hectares of mango, 11 hectares of oranges and tangerines; apply technical processes from pruning, grafting, fertilizing, and using pesticides according to the "4 rights" principle.

Owning 1.5 hectares of tangerines and Na Mon oranges, Mr. Lo Van Tien, a member of Toan Duyen Agricultural Cooperative, has actively applied technical advances to production, significantly increasing productivity and fruit quality. In 2024, more than 1.2 hectares were harvested, his family earned more than 15 tons of tangerines, with an average price of 25,000 VND/kg in the garden and 5 tons of Na Mon oranges, with a stable price of 25,000 VND/kg. After deducting expenses, his family earned nearly 200 million VND.

Taking us to visit the orange garden in the fruiting period, Mr. Tien shared: Joining the cooperative, we are instructed on planting, caring for, and harvesting fruit according to VietGAP standards and are guaranteed output for the products. Not hiding their knowledge and experience, the members are also willing to invite everyone to visit the garden, share, and popularize tree care methods.

Participating in the One Commune One Product (OCOP) Program, the Cooperative has proactively researched and perfected the production process, improved the quality, design, and packaging of products, aiming for export. In 2022, the Cooperative's products under the brand name "Tan Cuong Smoked Buffalo Meat" were recognized as meeting 4-star standards. In 2024 alone, the Cooperative sold nearly 2.5 tons of dried buffalo meat to the market, with an average price of 600,000 VND/kg to stores and supermarkets in Son La, Thai Nguyen, Hai Phong and Hanoi provinces. Currently, the Cooperative is continuing to complete the product documentation procedures for Na Mon oranges to meet 3-star standards.

In addition to agricultural production, in 2019, the Cooperative also traded fertilizers and animal feed to serve the members of the Cooperative and local people. The Cooperative also invested in a truck to transport fertilizers and animal feed to households that grow crops and raise livestock. In addition, the Cooperative signed business contracts with reputable enterprises in the agricultural sector, such as: Lam Thao Superphosphate and Chemical Joint Stock Company (Phu Tho province), Tan Viet Biological Joint Stock Company ( Ninh Binh province), to provide fertilizers to members at preferential prices.

With their acumen in finding consumer markets, in 2024, the cooperative members sold to the market over 25 tons of live pigs, 40 buffaloes and cows, more than 5,200 chickens and ducks; nearly 55 tons of oranges and tangerines; over 820 tons of fertilizers and animal feed of all kinds. The average income of cooperative members is always stable at about 76 million VND/person/year.

The successes of Toan Duyen Agricultural Cooperative have been helping members and people raise awareness in the production process, creating safe agricultural products; forming modern agricultural production thinking, creating motivation for collective economic development in border areas.
