According to information from the People's Committee of Huoi Mot commune, the flood caused damage to the houses of 108 households in 13 villages. Of these, 9 houses were completely collapsed, 21 houses were damaged and uninhabitable, 1 house was swept away by the flood, and 73 households are in areas at high risk of landslides.
Nam Pu was the most severely damaged village with 3 houses completely collapsed and many livestock and poultry of the people were swept away. More worryingly, on the mountain top next to the village appeared a slide over 200 m long, with cracks up to 60 cm deep, directly threatening the lives and property of 16 households. The local government organized an urgent evacuation of people and property from the danger zone.
Ms. Quàng Thị Chơ, Nam Pu village, shared: At around 8pm on July 26, it was raining heavily. I was in the house when I suddenly heard a loud explosion behind the house. I ran out and saw rocks and soil pouring down the stream. We only had time to hug our children and run outside. Immediately after that, we shouted to inform the neighbors to move out of the house. Some families ran up the hill, others ran to the village cultural house. Now, we dare not return home because we are still in the danger zone.
The family of Ms. Tran Thi Thinh, also in Nam Pu village, said: On the evening of July 26, during heavy rain, my house was suddenly flooded with rocks from the high hill. At that time, family members tried to open the door to run out but could not because the door was blocked by mud. In the panic, we discovered a hole in the back wall of the house caused by rocks rolling in, so we escaped through this way. Currently, there are Mobile Police soldiers, Provincial Police are helping the family overcome the consequences.
On the night of July 26, the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and the People's Committee of Huoi Mot commune mobilized local forces to organize an emergency evacuation of people. Currently, many key traffic routes running through the commune, such as National Highway 4G, Huoi Mot - Nam Man (old) route, Pung Khuong - Nam Man, were eroded at dozens of points, completely cut off.
With the urgent intervention of local authorities, road management and maintenance units, National Highway 4G has been temporarily opened to traffic, while the Huoi Mot - Nam Man route is being repaired. Hoa Mai Nam Man Kindergarten is also located in a high-risk landslide area, the school has proactively relocated all assets and teaching equipment to a safe place.
In times of crisis, the solidarity of the cadres and people of Huoi Mot was further promoted. The militia, youth union members, and mass organizations worked together to transport food and evacuate belongings from dangerous locations. All for the purpose of leaving no one behind, ensuring the safety of people's lives and property.
Comrade Do Tuan Dat, Secretary of the Party Committee of Huoi Mot commune, said: On July 29, the commune mobilized nearly 100 people including police, army, militia, and youth union members to participate in overcoming the consequences for the people, mainly concentrated in Nam Pu village. The work of ensuring security, social order and safety was maintained throughout the flood. There was no panic or instability. The Party Committee and the communal government continued to closely follow the grassroots, updating the situation of each village and each household; at the same time, they counted the damage and proposed timely support plans for the people to soon stabilize their lives.
Faced with the great damage to housing, transportation, schools and the risk of landslides continuing to develop complicatedly, the People's Committee of Huoi Mot commune proposed that the province soon send a professional working group to verify and assess the situation at the school, the road to the commune People's Committee headquarters and new landslides in Pung Khuong village. Provide financial support to overcome the consequences, such as rebuilding houses, repairing roads, irrigation works, domestic water systems and restoring agricultural production.
Up to this point, Huoi Mot commune has supported affected households with a total budget of over 100 million VND. Received food and foodstuffs from organizations and individuals and delivered them to affected households. In Nam Pu village alone, a business supported 1 ton of fertilizer and 6 million VND in cash for 3 households whose houses collapsed.
Faced with the complicated flood situation, the commune has arranged centralized accommodation for 229 people from Nam Pu and Pa Man villages (mainly the elderly and children). Specifically, 43 people were arranged to stay at the commune cultural house, the rest were temporarily arranged to stay at the Secondary School and Primary School in the commune.
On the morning of July 28, the working group of the Irrigation Department coordinated with the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee of the commune to conduct a field inspection of the cracked area above the residential area of Nam Pu village. At the same time, they worked with the Management Boards of Nam Pu and Pa Man villages to agree on a plan to evacuate households to a safe place. By the afternoon of July 28, all 229 people of the two villages had been brought to a safe place in the village.
With initiative, sense of responsibility and humanity in difficult times, Huoi Mot commune is urgently overcoming the consequences of floods, and quickly implementing plans to support production and resettlement for displaced households so that people can soon stabilize their lives.
