(kontumtv.vn) – Dak Glei district currently has 76 suspension bridges, including those invested by the State and those built by local people. Of these, 5 are severely damaged and 11 are in a state of disrepair.

Due to the geographical characteristics of being divided by rivers and streams, Dak Glei district has many suspension bridges, mainly suspension bridges across the Po Ko River. Through the review of the Economic - Infrastructure Department of Dak Glei district, the unsafe suspension bridges are mainly made by the people themselves, without funds for repair, so they still have to be used for transportation. This is one of the reasons leading to the situation of many suspension bridges in the district being damaged and degraded. In addition, due to long-term use, the impact of weather, natural disasters, and limited funding, Dak Glei district has not been able to repair all the damaged suspension bridges in the area.

Mr. A Duy, Deputy Head of the Economic - Infrastructure Division of Dak Glei district added: “ During the storms and floods since 2020, especially storm No. 9 in 2020, the heavy floods have changed the flow, eroded the bridge abutments, and the bridge surface has not been repaired. In the recent past, the Division has also advised the District People's Committee to direct the People's Committees of communes and towns to review and count the damaged suspension bridges to send to the Division for synthesis, reporting, and arranging capital for repair. However, due to the district's limited capital, the district only supports the cost of materials, iron, steel... for people to overcome."

To ensure safety when traveling on suspension bridges, functional agencies and local authorities in Dak Glei district are stepping up inspections and reviews of the current status of suspension bridges as well as propagating to people not to gather in large groups or travel in groups on damaged suspension bridges to avoid incidents, especially during the rainy season./.
