The Indonesian government is optimistic it will achieve its economic growth target of 5.1%-5.7% in 2024, despite a forecast global economic downturn. Indonesia's Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs Secretary Susiwijono said purchasing power will be maintained and the government needs to continue implementing social assistance programs this year.
Previously, the Indonesian government provided rice support to 21.3 million people; cash support to 18.8 million people at a rate of about 12.83 USD/person/month in the last 2 months of 2023. To strengthen micro, small and medium enterprises in the context of high interest rates, Jakarta has encouraged quick disbursement of low-interest business credit through weekend banking services to achieve the target of about 19.07 billion USD in 2023.
Mr. Susiwijono commented that in 2024, the impact of the global economic recession will likely affect areas where Indonesia depends heavily on external markets such as furniture exports.
