According to Antara news agency (antaranews.com), speaking to the press at Merdeka Palace in the capital Jakarta, President Joko Widodo said: "After more than 3 years of fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, today, Wednesday, June 21, 2023, the Government decided to cancel this pandemic status and move to the endemic phase."
Mr. Joko Widodo said the Government's decision to declare the end of the pandemic was based on the fact that currently, the number of daily COVID-19 cases in Indonesia is close to zero. Serological survey reports have shown that 99% of the Indonesian population has COVID-19 antibodies.
Although the COVID-19 pandemic has been declared over, President Widodo still asks people to be cautious and continue to practice a healthy lifestyle.
"With this decision, the country's economy will certainly develop better, and the economy and people's lives will improve," Widodo expressed confidence.
Previously, at the national conference on internal government supervision in 2023 held on June 14, the Indonesian President affirmed that the Government is completing arrangements to move from the pandemic phase to the circulation phase.
Once the pandemic phase officially moves into the circulation phase, the national COVID-19 task force will automatically disband./.
