Does the iPhone 15 have better camera technology than the iPhone 15 Pro?

According to GSMArena , Mr. Kuo pointed out that the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max will continue to use the same 48 MP sensor as their predecessors, namely the Sony IMX803. However, the standard iPhone 15 duo will be the first devices to feature a new stacked image sensor design from Sony.

Standard iPhone 15 models will be favored to use stacked sensors

“Stacked” refers to having the photodiode and transistor for each pixel in two separate layers, one on top of the other. Conventional sensors place them side by side, leaving less room for both the photodiode and transistor. Vivo, which is said to be using the Sony Lytia LYT800 sensor for its upcoming X100 series, says the 1/1.43-inch LYT800 sensor performs similarly to a traditionally designed 1-inch sensor.

Based on Kuo’s analysis, the Pro models will have stacked sensors next year, meaning the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max. Apple may differentiate the cameras on the iPhone 15 Pro models from the regular models in various ways, such as sensor size, image stabilization type, etc. Not only that, the iPhone 15 Pro Max will be the only one with a periscope camera. In addition, Apple is also expected to bring an exclusive super telephoto periscope camera to the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Introducing Sony's Stacked Sensor Technology

After the iPhone 15, Mr. Kuo warned that Sony's supply of stacked sensors will become more difficult in 2025 when Apple deploys them in tens of millions of iPhones, leading to concerns for other smartphone makers.
