Halevi's comments came after the leader of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham asserted that the Syrian opposition has no intention of engaging in fighting with Israel, saying that Israel "currently has no legitimate reason" to continue airstrikes and intervention in Syria.

Shortly after the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was overthrown, Israel sent troops into the UN-controlled buffer zone in Syria. Israeli forces also took control of a Syrian army outpost and stationed troops on Mount Hermon, the highest point in the area. According to Israeli officials, the airstrikes targeted Syrian army assets across the country.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani, on the same day, stressed the importance of preventing foreign interference in Syria's internal affairs.

The Iraqi Prime Minister's media office said Mr. Al-Sudani made the statement during a phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron, in which the two leaders discussed the latest developments in the Middle East, especially the situation in Syria.

During his conversation with Mr. Macron, Mr. Al-Sudani highlighted the need for a transitional period in Syria through an inclusive political process that guarantees the rights of all Syrians. He also affirmed the importance of preserving Syria's territorial integrity and unity, considering these vital factors for ensuring regional security and stability.

For his part, French President Macron reaffirmed the European country's commitment to Iraq's security and stability, and expressed support for the Baghdad government in addressing various challenges, especially in the fight against terrorism.

The two leaders also discussed the dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, stressing the need to intensify efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people. In addition, the two countries called for maintaining the ceasefire in Lebanon.

Also on December 14, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty condemned Israel's occupation of Syrian territory and violation of the 1974 withdrawal agreement, describing it as a clear violation of international law.

According to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Mr. Abdelatty made this statement during a meeting of the Arab Ministerial Liaison Committee on Syria held in the Jordanian city of Aqaba.

Egypt's foreign minister reiterated his country's strong opposition to Israel's military actions in the buffer zone with Syria. He also condemned Israeli airstrikes targeting Syria's military infrastructure and strategic capabilities.

In addition, Mr. Abdelatty stressed Egypt's unwavering support for the Syrian people at this crucial moment.
