Kate Winslet and James Cameron talk about 'rift' rumors after blockbuster 'Titanic'

James Cameron told Variety about actress Kate Winslet: "There was never a rift between us. Kate suffered a little postpartum depression when she finished playing Rose in Titanic . Kate and I recognized the fact that she went into the role very deeply, leaving a lasting impression."

For her part, Kate Winslet expressed: "There is a part of me that feels sad because the stupid, speculative things at the time overshadowed the real relationship between me and James."

Kate Winslet and James Cameron clear up rift rumors

Kate Winslet (48 years old) once confided in The Los Angeles Times in April 1997 (8 months before the movie Titanic was released) that people would have to pay her a lot of money to work with James Cameron.

In May 1997, Kate also told the newspaper: "Cameron is so hot-tempered you wouldn't believe it... I think James knows he can't scream at us like he did at his crew, because that would ruin our acting."

The Oscar-winning actress went on to describe James Cameron as "a really tough guy" and there were times when she was "really scared of him".

However, at the time, Kate Winslet confessed that she finally "got him".

Kate Winslet, who will return in the third installment of Avatar directed by James Cameron, told Variety : "James knows I'm up for anything."

Before taking on the role of Ronal, a Na'vi diver in Avatar: The Way of Water , due out in 2022, Kate Winslet learned how to free dive without an oxygen tank for more than seven minutes.

Cameron revealed that the actress asked the producers to send a trainer to her home swimming pool to prepare for the technically demanding underwater scenes.

"It's all about the spirit. Kate Winslet and Sigourney Weaver are both strong-willed people who have complete control over their props, their thoughts, their voices, their bodies... And what makes them good actors is learning how to dive well," the 70-year-old filmmaker said.
