Desolation on the banks of Thia Stream
Present at the scene, we could not help but feel saddened by the scene of devastation, many sections of Suoi Thia embankment were severely damaged after the recent flood.

In Group 2, Cau Thia Ward, the embankment surface was broken, large concrete slabs were shattered, exposing the gabion structure inside. According to records, the entire embankment foundation system, about 150 m long, was eroded by floodwater, causing cracks and collapses.
It is worth mentioning that this Thia stream embankment project was just completed on August 30, 2025, with a total investment of 4.2 billion VND, but before it was accepted and handed over, it was devastated by floods.
In particular, in Na Duong village, the devastation of the flood was most evident. The rain and flood completely destroyed a section of embankment tens of meters long, the fierce water flowed straight into the bank, seriously threatening the foundation of the nearby Na Loc suspension bridge.
Faced with the urgent situation, the local government had to mobilize resources to reinforce and temporarily embank the bridge with stone gabions to preserve the foundation of this vital bridge.
On the opposite side, hundreds of meters of embankment were also washed away and broken by the flood, burying many corn and squash fields of the people in mud and sand.

According to the report of Cau Thia Ward People's Committee, the circulation of storm No. 10 caused very heavy rain, over 200 mm, causing the stream water level to rise, causing landslides at 3 locations in Nam To residential group (100 m) and Na Duong residential group (2 locations, total length 420 m).
People are insecure
Talking to us, Ms. Hoang Thi Ly - Chairman of Cau Thia Ward People's Committee said: "In the ward, Suoi Thia embankment was completely broken in 3 locations and 2 other locations were cracked and eroded. Right at the time of the natural disaster, the government had to organize the urgent evacuation of more than 132 households out of the danger zone."
"If the broken embankment locations are not repaired and handled immediately, there is a risk that other embankment sections will break, possibly affecting 513 households in the area," Ms. Ly added.
This concern is also the common sentiment of many households in the area. Mr. Ha Van Hung - Secretary of the Na Duong residential group Party Cell said: "Nearly 400 meters of embankment have been eroded, people are very worried".
The entire sand and soil buried more than 4 hectares of rice fields of the people. More seriously, in the Na Duong residential area, there are still 24 households with 105 people who do not have land to move to a new safe place.

The damage did not stop at houses, but also at means of production. Mr. Luong Van Lien, a resident of Na Duong residential group, sadly shared that his family had lost 1,000 square meters of land growing corn and squash.
"People hope that the authorities will soon repair the embankments affected by natural disasters so that people can stabilize production," Mr. Lien expressed.
Need sustainable solutions
It is worth mentioning that this is not the first time people here have had to face this scene.
"This is the third time this embankment has broken. It breaks every 2-3 years, people cannot rest assured to develop their economy ," Mr. Hung added.
From that reality, people not only want a temporary solution, but need a more fundamental and sustainable solution.
Mr. Hung suggested: "We hope that designers will consult with local people who understand the flow of water to have a reasonable plan to ensure safety."
Specifically, people suggested replacing small ball culverts with slab bridges to ensure better drainage and avoid congestion that puts pressure on embankments and residential areas.

In the immediate future, Cau Thia ward has requested the province to issue an emergency situation and urgently build to repair the embankment sections, and at the same time recommended surveying and adjusting the entire flow of Suoi Thia to ensure long-term safety for the people.
The lives of hundreds of households in Cau Thia ward are being threatened every day. More than ever, they need timely and effective solutions, not only to overcome the immediate consequences, but also to build a truly solid "shield", helping people settle down and find work.
