The 2025 National Youth Figure Skating Championship is organized by the Vietnam Figure Skating and Roller Skating Federation in coordination with the Vietnam Sports and Physical Training Department, Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports and Vincom Retail Operations Company Limited.

This year, the tournament has 90 athletes from Hanoi , Ho Chi Minh City, Thai Nguyen and Hai Phong. Many young faces who have achieved outstanding results in regional and international competitions are participating, affirming the progress of Vietnamese skating on the continental arena. Notably, the tournament has seven athletes who are members of the national team preparing to participate in the SEA Games, who won a total of 3 Gold Medals, 2 Silver Medals and 3 Bronze Medals at the Asian Speed Skating Championship held in India last August, also participating in this tournament.

Athletes competed in 36 events, including 7 figure skating events and 29 speed skating events for men and women, with different ages and distances, including one team event. The tournament is not only a place to demonstrate the abilities of young athletes but also an opportunity to evaluate the training quality of units and localities, aiming to improve professional achievements and prepare forces for the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand next December.

Before the tournament, on October 17, the Vietnam Figure Skating and Roller Skating Federation organized a national figure skating referee training course, taught by Chinese expert Wu Yee The. The training course aims to share practical experiences, update new trends, technologies and regulations, helping Vietnamese referees improve their professional capacity, aiming to meet the professional standards of the International Skating Union (ISU).

In addition to the technical aspects, this year’s tournament also emphasizes the spirit of fair and honest sportsmanship. The Vietnam Skating and Roller Federation has applied the Anti-Doping Standards (ADS) regulations according to the guidelines of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). All athletes are responsible for understanding and complying with the rules to ensure a clean and healthy competition environment.

According to Mr. Pham Xuan Tai, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, Head of the Organizing Committee, ice skating is a sport that combines strength, speed, dexterity and artistry. He believes that each step and each turn represents the spirit of conquest, creativity and passion of youth. This year's youth championship not only helps athletes practice their bravery and noble sportsmanship, but also creates opportunities to discover and select new talents to add to the national team. This is also an important preparation step for Vietnam to have athletes officially compete in the two events of figure skating and speed skating at the 33rd SEA Games for the first time.

In the synchronized skating group, the Hanoi delegation continued to show their superiority by winning many high rankings. Outstanding athletes include Tran Bao Han (Preliminary Open Level Gold Medal), Le Bao Chau (Elementary Open Level Gold Medal), Vu Le Khanh Chi (Adult Open Level Gold Medal) and Nguyen Huu Hoang (Junior Men Gold Medal). In the Senior Women category, Nguyen Cao Ha Mi of Ho Chi Minh City excellently won the championship.

In the short speed skating group, the races were fierce with many personal records set. Notably, Nguyen Phuc Gia Hung (Hanoi) competed impressively, winning 3 Gold Medals in the 500m, 1000m and semi-professional events. Athlete Truong Dang Han Di (Ho Chi Minh City) also left her mark when she came first in both the 300m and 500m events for women in group D. In the Junior B group for women, Dinh Truc Quyen (Hanoi) affirmed her stable performance with 2 Gold Medals, while Pham Ai My Anh (Hanoi) led the Junior E event for women in the 300m.

A notable highlight of the tournament was the announcement of the ISU Athletes Safeguarding Policy under the auspices of the International Skating Union. This policy aims to build a safe, respectful and fair sporting environment; protect the physical, mental and emotional health of athletes; and prevent and respond to acts of harassment, abuse or discrimination.

The 2025 National Junior Figure Skating Championship is not only a professional playground for young athletes but also a testament to the development of the skating movement in Vietnam. With investment in organization, training and long-term orientation, the tournament is expected to contribute to raising the position of Vietnamese figure skating in the region, while nurturing a new generation of promising athletes for future international competitions.
