Billiards: Bao Phuong Vinh shows off his talent in an exciting tournament format

The 2025 Phuc Thinh Cup 3-cushion carom billiards tournament took place in Ho Chi Minh City from October 20 to 25, applying for the first time a unique '2 in 1' format, where the qualifying round also has its own championship and prize money.

The 2025 Phuc Thinh Cup 3-Cushion Carom Billiards Tournament is organized under the coordination of the Phuc Thinh billiards system and the Ho Chi Minh City Billiards & Snooker Federation (HBSF), aiming to promote the 3-Cushion Carom movement and create a classy playground for both professional and amateur players. This year's tournament has a notable innovation in the competition format.

The qualifying round also has a champion.

The tournament has 2 stages, including: qualifying round and final round. Notably, both rounds have separate prize structures. This is the first time in Vietnam that a 3-cushion amateur carom tournament is organized in a "2 in 1" format, helping players in the qualifying round not only compete to win tickets to the next round, but also compete for the championship of the qualifying round with attractive prizes.

Mr. Luong Khac Tam - Vice President of HBSF shared: "This format shows that the organizing committee always listens to the contributions of players. After many times of organizing, we understand that amateur players need more than one opportunity to assert themselves and be recognized properly."

Bao Phuong Vinh is the player with the best performance in 2 consecutive tournaments taking place in Belgium, including the Antwerp Billiards World Cup and the 2025 World Championship.

The qualifying round will take place from October 20 to 23, in a knockout format. Matches will be played for 30 points, with a maximum of 40 turns. The final round will be played over two days: October 24 and 25, with 32 players (including 16 qualifiers and 16 players ranked by HBSF). The group stage matches will be played for 35 points on a two-loss basis, from the round of 16 to the semi-finals will be played for 40 points, and the final match will be played for 50 points.

The players who were given special permission to appear from the final round of the tournament include Bao Phuong Vinh. The 2023 Carom Billiards World Champion is the Vietnamese athlete who performed most impressively in the two tournaments that took place in Belgium recently. The player born in 1995 won 3rd place at the Antwerp Billiards World Cup 2025 and reached the round of 16 of the 3-cushion Carom World Championship 2025.

The total prize money for the tournament is nearly 60 million VND. In the final round, the champion will receive 40 million VND, the runner-up will receive 15 million VND, and the two third-place winners will receive 7.5 million VND each. In addition, the organizers will also award two additional prizes for "best game" and "best series", each worth 5 million VND. The qualifying round will have separate prizes worth 18 million VND for the champion, runner-up and third-place winners.
