Tran Thanh Luc entered the round of 16 strongest players
On the afternoon of October 16, Tran Thanh Luc faced Ryuuji Umeda (Japan) in the round of 32 match. The Vietnamese player's opponent is a veteran of Asian 3-cushion carom billiards, who won the world championship in 2007.
The two players started the match slowly in the early stages and were led by their opponents. After 10 shots, the Vietnamese player led 14-10. However, after warming up, Tran Thanh Luc started to accelerate and overtook Umeda. The 2024 Bogota Billiards World Cup champion brought the match into halftime in the 15th shot, with a 10-point lead over his opponent (27-17).
Tran Thanh Luc is the current runner-up of the world championship. In the final match held in 2024 in Binh Thuan , Thanh Luc lost to Korean prodigy Cho Myung-woo.

In the second set, Thanh Luc encountered more difficulties on the way to the finish line. Umeda slowed down the pace of the game, played tightly to keep Thanh Luc at bay and persistently chased. There was a period in 5 turns (from 28 to 32) when both players did not score any points. However, Thanh Luc also knew how to take advantage of the opportunity to win.
In the end, Tran Thanh Luc defeated Ryuuji Umeda with a score of 50-38, after 38 rounds.
In the match taking place at the same time, Martin Horn won Tolgahan Kiraz with a score of 50-40. Thus, Thanh Luc will face Horn in the round of 16. This is a big challenge for the Vietnamese player, when Horn is in good form, having just won the championship at the World Cup billiards Antwerp (Belgium) 2025.
Round 32 also witnessed a surprise, when the very strong player Tasdemir Tayfun (Türkiye) lost to Thomas Andersen (Denmark).
Frederic Caudron defeated compatriot Roland Forthomme 50-22 in just 19 innings. Caudron will meet Thomas Andersen in the round of 16.
