On the morning of June 3, candidates who registered for the 10th grade entrance exam at Ha Long High School for the Gifted completed the exam for one of the specialized subjects corresponding to the specialized class they registered for. This was also the final exam, concluding the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2023-2024 school year in Quang Ninh province.
This morning, candidates took one of the final specialized subjects: Math, Informatics, Physics, Chemistry, Literature or Chinese, with a test time of 150 minutes.
In particular, the Foreign Language subject applies a combined exam format of essay and objective multiple choice to comprehensively assess listening, reading, and writing skills; candidates choosing to take the exam for the IT specialized class with the IT exam will take a computer programming test; the remaining subjects apply the essay format.
At the end of the exam, most candidates commented that this year's specialized subject exam was still similar to previous years' exam structure, with application and advanced application questions accounting for the majority to truly assess students' academic ability and select students with good academic ability for specialized classes.
According to a quick report from the provincial Department of Education and Training, 652 candidates took the specialized exam on the morning of June 3; 9 candidates were absent; the attendance rate was 98.6%. The exam took place safely and seriously, no candidate violated exam regulations; security and safety for the exam were strictly implemented, no unusual incidents occurred.
In the 2023-2024 school year, Ha Long High School for the Gifted has 1,086 candidates registered for the exam, with a candidate participation rate of over 99%. The enrollment quota is no more than 465 students for 11 specialized classes (no more than 35 students per class) and 2 non-specialized classes (no more than 40 students per class).
The new point in the admission work for the specialized system this year is to reduce the number of non-specialized classes from 3 to 2 classes to comply with the Regulations on the organization and operation of specialized high schools, gradually implementing the roadmap to stop enrolling non-specialized classes from the following school year; at the same time, increase the English specialized class to 2 classes to balance the number of candidates registering and the admission score for the English specialized class. In addition, Ha Long Specialized High School also balances the enrollment quota for students taking the IT exam and the Math exam for the IT specialized class.
According to the plan, the Department of Education and Training will announce the results of the 10th grade entrance exam for both specialized and non-specialized students on June 14; receive applications and review from June 19 to 22; announce the results of the review and announce the admission scores for grade 10 on June 22.
