With the theme "Before the Great Sea," this year's Poetry Day is a wonderful combination of poetry and the sea. Quang Ninh was the first locality to organize a Poetry Day event on a provincial scale in 1988, commemorating the 520th anniversary of King Le Thanh Tong's poem inscribed on the cliff of Bai Tho Mountain.
The 24th Vietnam Poetry Day takes place in the context of the Party having just successfully organized the 14th National Congress, marking a special turning point for the country, inaugurating an era of national progress with a long-term strategic vision, aspirations and determination to improve national governance capacity, develop all aspects of socio-economic life, and enhance the image, position and strength of Vietnam in the new era.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Quang Ninh Provincial Party Secretary Quan Minh Cuong affirmed that this year's Poetry Day is not only a typical cultural event, but also carries a profound message about the nation's aspiration to reach out to the wider world, a world of integration, creativity, and the cultural resilience of Vietnam in the new era.
For Quang Ninh, the sea is not only a space for survival and economic development, but also a space for culture and literary and artistic creation. In recent years, along with the strong shift in the economic development model from brown to green, with people at the center and culture as the spiritual foundation, Quang Ninh has always identified literature and art as an important soft resource for long-term development.
The province always cherishes, supports, and creates favorable conditions for the creative team of artists and writers; today's Vietnamese Poetry Day will continue to contribute to enriching the cultural identity of Vietnam and beautifying the image of the country and people of Quang Ninh.

Opening the 2026 Vietnam Poetry Day was a suite of poems by President Ho Chi Minh titled "Nguyen Tieu," performed by artists from the Quang Ninh Provincial Association of Literature and Arts.
Next, the audience enjoyed poems about the sea by poets from various generations, listening to and appreciating the works of famous poets and those with beautiful poems about the sea such as: Nguyen Khoa Diem, Huu Thinh, Tran Nhuan Minh, Tran Dang Khoa, Thuan Huu, Nguyen Thi Hong Ngat, Nguyen Viet Chien, Dang Huy Giang, Pham Duong and young poets who are making an impression on the literary scene: Trang Thanh, Lu Mai, Nguyen Thi Kim Nhung…
Particularly at the poetry night, the public had the opportunity to listen to poets and authors talk about the circumstances of their creation, directly read the original poems, and enjoy some songs set to poetry performed by singers.
This year's Vietnam Poetry Day continues to feature the participation of American poet Bruce Weigl, one of two American veterans who were directly awarded the Friendship Medal in 2024 by General Secretary To Lam for their positive contributions to promoting and introducing Vietnamese literature to the world and helping to build a bridge of friendship between Vietnam and the United States.
The 24th Vietnam Poetry Day in 2026 in Quang Ninh province continues the success of the 23rd Poetry Day in Ninh Binh province. The Vietnam Writers Association continues to implement the policy of bringing National Poetry Day to the public nationwide through a rotating format in different localities, depending on the theme of that year's Poetry Day.
