Cinque Terre – an area consisting of 5 villages: Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso, located on a cliff jutting out into the sea in the Northwest of Italy. This place attracts tourists from all over the world with its colorful houses located close together, perched on the coast.
Over the centuries, despite the impact of tourism development, Cinque Terre has retained its wild beauty and unique architecture. The five villages of Cinque Terre are connected by road, rail and sea. These villages are distinguished by hundreds of small, brightly painted houses.
Billy Ngo, a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City, recently visited Cinque Terre and shared his first impression of the village, which was the splendor of the houses, as if they came out of a fairy tale. “In my opinion, Manarola is the most beautiful village. It is perched precariously in a ravine with jagged rocks on one side and a pristine coastline on the other,” Billy added.
Corniglia village is located at high altitude and has no port for ships to enter by sea, the other four villages are all accessible by boat.
Small villages and small streets, each village seems to have only one main street in the middle, with rows of restaurants and shops on both sides, and high on both sides of the mountain are paths leading to the houses, tower-shaped houses. The most interesting thing is that from above the center of Corniglia, visitors can see all four other villages.
Manarola is the second village from the east, Riomaggiore is the first. If you go from one village to the other by car, you have to go around the mountains. Or many people choose to walk along the edge of the sea, past vineyards and small peaks.
The “Road of Love” is a pedestrian route between Manarola and Riomaggiore. This is the most beautiful and popular route, especially in the morning when the sun is not too strong.
Built in the 8th century, Riomaggiore is also characterised by its traditional painted tower houses. The back road of the village follows the sea and leads to a small beach with crystal clear water.
The village of Vernazza is impressive with its square and monochrome houses lining the winding streets. Visitors should visit the Vernazza pier at sunset, when the sun “dyes” the ancient houses and the impressive sea.
The last village to the west of the Cinque Terre is Monterosso, which is divided into two distinct parts with the symbolic boundary being the Aurora Tower on top of San Critoforo hill.
Monterosso has many long beaches so it is very crowded with tourists. The beaches here do not have much fine white sand, but the sea water is clear, considered one of the least polluted seas in the Mediterranean.
According to Billy Ngo, mid-April to early September is a good time to visit Cinque Terre. During this time, the weather is nice, the sky is clear and blue, and suitable for fun activities on the beach.
