The story about the menu at Aunt Muoi's vegetarian restaurant also makes many diners excited because if they come to the restaurant without looking at it first, it's like "ripping blindly", as many young people jokingly say, because they don't know what the restaurant is selling that day.

Aunt Muoi has been selling vegetarian dishes for over 10 years.

We visited Aunt Muoi's restaurant on a weekday afternoon. The small and pretty restaurant is located on the frontage of Nhat Tao Street (District 10, Ho Chi Minh City). Although it was not a vegetarian day, it was just after 4pm - the afternoon opening time, and customers kept coming.

A regular customer of the restaurant in Binh Thanh District, on a business trip, stopped by the vegetarian restaurant with her child. However, it was Thursday afternoon and the restaurant served vegetarian noodles and fried rice, which were not her taste, so she had to leave and make an appointment to come back another day.

Perhaps many customers who come here to eat, the first thing they ask the owner is: "What's for sale today?" or look at the board placed in front of the restaurant with handwritten lines announcing the dishes for sale that day. It was also Thursday, but that day, in the morning the restaurant sold mixed porridge, noodles, and wontons, but in the afternoon it was the two dishes mentioned above.

The customers' reaction is understandable, because according to Ms. My (25 years old), Aunt Muoi's daughter, the restaurant has about 30 different vegetarian dishes. Every day, every session, the restaurant sells different dishes and during the week, customers hardly see any day the same as the previous one.

My and her mother have been selling vegetarian food for over a year now.

Pointing to a large, long board posted inside the restaurant, with handwritten lines clearly stating this week's menu, the restaurant said that every week, the restaurant will release a new menu with dishes arranged to be sold on different days of the week accordingly.

"For example, on vegetarian days, the restaurant will cook and sell dishes that are easier to make and faster to make because there are many customers that day. If we cook elaborate dishes, it will take time. Other dishes we sell on different days depending on the ingredients," My shared.

Talking about the unique menu at the restaurant, Ms. My confided that when the restaurant first opened more than 10 years ago, her mother only sold 5-6 dishes, and each day she also sold different dishes to change the taste. Gradually, Ms. Muoi learned how to cook more dishes and the menu gradually increased over time.

Aunt Muoi confided that changing the menu like this is to change the taste of customers so they don't get bored. However, there are also limitations when some customers don't remember the menu and come on the day of selling dishes that they don't like.

Each meal costs from 35,000 - 40,000 VND.

"The customers at my restaurant are not necessarily vegetarians, but mostly vegetarians for health reasons, so I also sell a variety of dishes to suit their needs. Many regular customers can preview the restaurant's weekly menu before coming," My added.

Vegetarian restaurant "7 days 7 dishes"

Ms. Le Le Man (62 years old), owner of a vegetarian restaurant with more than ten years of experience on Dinh Hoa Street (District 8, Ho Chi Minh City) also has a unique menu with a different dish every day so customers don't have to worry about "what to eat today".

Accordingly, the restaurant's menu is diverse with noodle soup or vermicelli with spring rolls (Monday); vermicelli with crab soup - vermicelli soup (Tuesday); wonton noodles (Wednesday); Thai vermicelli (Thursday); Hue vermicelli (Friday); pho (Saturday). On the 1st and 15th of the lunar month, Ms. Man sells curry and spring rolls.

The owner confided that this restaurant was opened by her sister-in-law more than 10 years ago. At that time, Ms. Man sold homemade spices and sauces (soy sauce, fermented bean curd, satay, chili sauce, etc.). Her sister-in-law sold them for a few months and then quit. Seeing that, Ms. Man immediately "inherited" the restaurant, selling vegetarian dishes until today.

Instead of selling one dish, the owner said she sells a different vegetarian dish every day to change the taste of customers. Customers will not get bored and can come to the restaurant all week.

Stick with mom's vegetarian restaurant

For more than 10 years, Aunt Muoi has been selling vegetarian food, which is also the same amount of time that My has been helping her mother sell. At first, she had a love for baking and wanted to sell sweet and savory cakes. But after being attached to her mother's vegetarian food for more than a decade, she has more or less developed her feelings, so she decided to inherit and develop it.

Even though it is not a vegetarian day, customers still visit the restaurant regularly.

In the past, Aunt Muoi used to sell meat dishes for 3 months to earn extra income for her family, but was not successful. After that, she sold vegetarian dishes at An Quang apartment building (District 10) and received a lot of support from customers, so she has been selling until now. For many reasons, the restaurant moved to a new location here not long ago, according to the owner.

Mr. Duc (47 years old) works near this restaurant and said that this is his regular restaurant. Whenever he craves vegetarian food, he stops by, partly because it is nearby, partly because it suits his taste and the price is reasonable.

"The vegetarian dishes here are not too bland but have a rich flavor, I find them suitable for my taste. I don't care too much about food, deliciousness, hygiene, and affordable prices are enough. Here, I usually eat rice dishes to fill my stomach such as sweet and sour pork ribs, vegetarian broken rice, beef stew. But whenever there is a dish, I eat it for a change of taste," the diner shared.

Aunt Muoi confided that the most popular dishes on the 30-dish menu are goat noodles, wontons, and fried dough. The dishes are sold at prices ranging from 35,000 to 40,000 VND. The restaurant is open twice a day, from 6am to 11am and from 4pm to 8pm.

The happiness for Aunt Muoi and her daughter is to bring vegetarian dishes to customers near and far every day.
