Dembele and Messi played together for four seasons at Barcelona from 2017-2018, before the Argentine star had to leave the Catalan team in the summer of 2021 to join PSG.
Coincidentally, Dembele also left Barcelona after the 2022-2023 season to go to PSG and achieved a series of successes as present, the pinnacle of his personal achievement being the Golden Ball award.
When Messi came to PSG, he also won the 2022 World Cup with the Argentina team, and won the Golden Ball in 2023, the 8th title in his career. Thereby, he also closed a glorious journey, giving way to his juniors like Rodri (Man City) who won the Golden Ball in 2024 and now Dembele (PSG), becoming the latest person to join the list of Golden Ball winners in history.
"Amazing!!! Congratulations, I'm so happy for you. You deserve it," Messi sent a message and a congratulatory hand emoji to Dembele's Instagram post after he won the Ballon d'Or. Dembele wrote the message: "So much joy, pride and emotion. A dream come true. Thank you to everyone who has always supported me on this journey."

Striker Kylian Mbappe, Dembele's teammate in the French national team, also posted a congratulatory message. Accordingly, Mbappe posted a photo of Dembele smiling in the PSG shirt and the Golden Ball, with the status line: "So emotional, my brother! You deserve it 1,000 times more."
Before the Golden Ball award ceremony, Mbappe was one of three Real Madrid players on the nomination list, the other two being Jude Bellingham and Vinicius, who also said he fully supported Dembele to win the 2025 Golden Ball.
Meanwhile, famous football player Ronaldo, who has won the Golden Ball 5 times, has not expressed any emotions to congratulate Dembele on social media platforms or award-related accounts.
Ronaldo recently criticized the Ballon d'Or vote as "fictional". In the past two years (2024 and 2025), neither Messi nor Ronaldo were on the shortlist of 30 players for the Ballon d'Or.
Ronaldo alone is the third consecutive year since 2023, although he is still the number 1 scorer since moving to Al Nassr Club in Saudi Arabia and is on track to complete the historical record of scoring 1,000 goals in his career, he has now scored 946 goals, according to Spanish newspaper Marca .
