Currently, this country has only 32 people and 3 dogs living there.
The Republic of Molossia is a country located near Dayton, Nevada, USA, with an area of just over 50,000 square meters. The special thing here is that the Republic of Molossia is surrounded by the United States, so it is also known as a “country within a country”. Because of its small area, the population of this country is only 32 people.
History of Molossia
In Harmony County, Nevada, USA, there was a boy named Kevin Baugh whose childhood dream was to build his own country. At that time, he had a group of like-minded friends with the goal of building a country in the future.
Kevin later became a soldier serving in the US army and never gave up on this dream. After being discharged from the army, he and a childhood friend set out to build their own country. On May 26, 1977, the two declared the establishment of the Great Waterstein Republic on a small piece of land, his friend became king and Kevin became prime minister .
But in 1999, Kevin's friend left the country, so Kevin changed the country's name to "Republic of Molossia" and became president himself.
When the country was newly founded, Kevin designed his own flag. The flag of the Republic of Molossia has three colors: blue, white, and green, which represent the sky, the desert, and the mountains.
In order to better govern his small country, he consulted the political and legal systems of different countries and especially sought out people who could help him build his own political and legal systems. The country banned guns, ammunition, explosives, drugs, cigarettes, incandescent light bulbs, plastic bags and other items that pollute the environment.
In Molossia, Kenvin also intended to establish a navy, army, and air force, but due to geographical limitations, the army and air force could not be implemented. The navy was established with 5 kayaks.
Molossia currently has 32 citizens and 3 dogs living there.
2. Economy of Molossia
Today, Molossoa's economy is mainly based on wine production and tourism. Molossia is located in the desert, with unique climate and soil conditions that are especially suitable for growing grapes, so they thought of producing wine.
Perhaps because of the premium raw materials and high quality of the wine produced, coupled with its rarity and expensive nature, the wine produced here is highly valued on the international market.
In addition, because of curiosity about this country, many tourists from all over the world visit Molossia every year. To visit this country, tourists must make an appointment online in advance. The relevant local agencies will review and approve the application. Since there are no direct flights to this country, tourists will land in the US first and then take a train to get here.
In particular, visitors to Molossia will not be allowed to stay here for more than 3 hours. The reason is because there are very few public toilets here and 3 hours is enough to explore the whole country.
3. Unrecognized country
Despite its long history, the country has never been recognized as a country by the United Nations or any other government. But Kevin, the president of Molossia, is not concerned about whether others recognize his country or not. “I like diplomacy but in an informal environment, where we do not need to establish diplomacy in a rigid way but use a softer approach to realize our aspirations to build our own country,” he said.
