Amidst the majestic mountains of the state of Guerrero (Mexico), there is a small but enchanting city called Taxco.
With its Spanish colonial architecture, traditional silver craftsmanship and peaceful atmosphere, Taxco is known as the "silver capital" of Mexico.
Taxco is one of Mexico’s oldest colonial cities. With its winding cobblestone streets, whitewashed houses with red-tiled roofs, iron balconies and brightly colored windows, Taxco transports visitors back to the 18th century, when the city’s silver mining industry was at its peak.
Walking around the city, visitors can easily feel the blend of European charm and traditional Mexican spirit.
In the heart of the city is the Santa Prisca Church. This is a magnificent and elaborate baroque structure, built in the 18th century, with the wealth obtained from the famous silver mines of Taxco. This destination attracts many tourists and locals to gather every day, especially on weekends or major holidays and important events.

Not only famous for its scenery, Taxco is also known as the silver capital of Mexico. Since the 16th century, the city has developed thanks to silver mining. Today, Taxco still maintains its reputation as the leading center for producing and trading silver jewelry in Mexico. Visitors come here not only to admire the ancient beauty, but also to bring back exquisite handicrafts.
“We learned the craft from our fathers, and each product is part of the Taxco cultural heritage,” said Lucas Martínez, owner of a local silver jewelry shop. Tourists who come here are very fond of Taxco silver jewelry.
One of the must-see destinations when visiting Taxco is the Posada de la Misión silver mine. This was once one of the main mines during the colonial period, where thousands of workers worked to bring prosperity to this land. The mine is more than 500 years old, used by the Chontales people around the 15th-16th centuries, about 150 m long, and still contains many unexploited mineral veins. Today, Posada is not only an old silver mine, but also a living museum, connecting the past and the present, between mineral heritage and sustainable tourism .
Posada Silver Mine guide Alberto Rodriguez said: “We still keep the old mine structure intact so that visitors can imagine the harsh life and work of miners at that time. This silver mine has many minerals such as silver, zinc, iron, lead, gold... The ancients collected nearly 800 grams of silver from 20 tons of rock."
Silver crafting is still the pride of Taxco. From small craft workshops to big brands, the people here are constantly innovating, maintaining the reputation of the "silver city" on the world map.

Tourists come to Taxco not only to buy silver but also to enjoy the peaceful and poetic atmosphere. An experience not to be missed is climbing to the top of the mountain where the statue of Christ with open arms overlooks the city. With its pristine beauty, unique architecture and deep history, Taxco is not only a tourist destination but also a place to preserve the golden memories of Mexico.
Taxco - a small city but contains unique cultural, historical and artistic values. If you want to find a peaceful stop, listening to the echoes of time from the ancient walls, then Taxco is the destination for you./.
