Explore the vibrant world of Moomins during Finnish Literature Week

Celebrating the 80th anniversary of the first Moomin work by author Tove Jansson - a timeless and iconic Nordic artistic legacy, Kim Dong Publishing House, the Embassy of Finland in Vietnam, The Initiative of Children's Book Creative Content (ICBC) organized "Finnish Literature Week - Exhibition Tove Jansson & Moomins 80" from July 11 to 20.

The Moomin series by author Tove Jansson consists of 9 classic novels published one after another since 1945. Each work is a small world containing profound lessons about maturity, loneliness, family love and the desire to find a home.

In Vietnam, the first book by writer Tove Jansson “The Sorcerer’s Hat” was introduced to readers by Kim Dong Publishing House in 2010 and to date, all 9 Moomin works have reached Vietnamese readers with the titles “The Sorcerer’s Hat”, “The Invisible Child”, “The Moomin Family at Sea”, “Mysterious Winter”, “Mumi and the Comet”, “Dangerous Solstice”, “The Exciting Adventures of Daddy Moomin” and “November in the Moomin Valley”.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of “Finnish Literature Week - Exhibition of Tove Jansson & Moomins 80” on the afternoon of July 11, Deputy Director - Editor-in-Chief of Kim Dong Publishing House Vu Thi Quynh Lien said that this is a series of events displaying art, reading creative books, and launching special books for readers who love literature. In addition to the Moomin series, the Organizing Committee also introduced many special Finnish literary books. Each work has its own theme and characters, but all take readers on adventures, opening up a world full of love, as well as promoting freedom and individuality.

“Finnish Literature Week - Tove Jansson & Moomins 80 Exhibition” not only aims to introduce outstanding Finnish literary works, but also contributes to promoting cultural dialogue and spreading reading culture in the community, especially among young readers.

Finnish Literature Week - Exhibition Tove Jansson & Moomins 80” is held free of charge at Kim Dong Publishing House (55 Quang Trung, Hai Ba Trung Ward, Hanoi). Readers of all ages have the opportunity to explore the life of Tove Jansson and the world of Moomin in an engaging and lively way through impressive exhibits, along with a series ofeducational and creative art activities for all ages.

There are many activities within the framework of the week for Vietnamese readers, especially children, to approach a timeless Finnish literary heritage: Reading Moomin books with Ms. Teija Norvanto, wife of the Finnish Ambassador to Vietnam; reading the book “Hello Ruby - Exploring the Internet World”; reading the book “The Adventures of Daddy Mumi”; reading the book “The Sorcerer’s Hat” and making a Moomin house by hand; reading the book “The Mumi Family at Sea”; launching the book “The Last Mermaid - Echoes from the legend of the ocean”…

In addition, during the week, the Organizing Committee has designed an experience program specifically for visits to kindergartens and primary schools with interesting and humane educational and reading promotion activities to help young readers explore the characters and stories in the Moomin world in a complete and creative way.
