Ca Mau province has just inaugurated a monument complex commemorating the gathering to the North and received recognition as a National Monument for this gathering location.


On the evening of November 16, Ca Mau province held an inauguration ceremony for a monument complex commemorating the 1954 Northward train trip in Song Doc town, Tran Van Thoi district, Ca Mau province.

Mr. Pham Thanh Ngai, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province, emphasized that the monument commemorating the 1954 train to the North is one of the works of great historical significance.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Pham Thanh Ngai, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province, said that the signing of the Geneva Agreement on the cessation of war in Vietnam opened a new page in the struggle for national liberation and national reunification of our people.

With the strategic vision of the Party Central Committee, President Ho Chi Minh decided to arrange a group of Party members to stay behind to lead the fight in the South and transfer the majority of the army, Party members, and students in the Southern provinces to concentrate in some places. Of these, tens of thousands of people gathered in Ca Mau to gather in the North.

"The 1954 Northward regrouping event was a strategic troop movement aimed at sending cadres, soldiers, and students from the South to the North to work and study to train Southern revolutionary cadres, build a socialist North, and create a solid rear base towards completely liberating the South and unifying the country," Mr. Ngai shared.

According to Mr. Ngai, over the past 70 years, with the tradition of drinking water and remembering its source, today's generation is forever grateful to the previous generation who heroically fought and sacrificed for national independence and freedom.

To prepare for the 70th anniversary of the Northward rally, many activities were organized from the beginning of the year, such as: Scientific seminar with the theme "200 days of Northward rally in Ca Mau - strategic vision and historical value"; activities to reenact 200 days of Northward rally in Tri Phai commune (Thoi Binh district) to express gratitude to the people here who helped during the rally days.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Ca Mau province added that the monument commemorating the 1954 train to the North is one of the works of great historical significance, a red address contributing to educating revolutionary traditions, patriotism, and national pride for today's and future generations.

This is also one of the projects to welcome the 17th Ca Mau Provincial Party Congress, term 2025-2030.

The Monument Complex commemorating the train to the North in 1954 has a total investment of 195 billion VND.

With the historical significance of the event, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism decided to rank the "Regrouping site to the North in late 1954 and early 1955 on the southern bank of the Doc River" in Song Doc town, Tran Van Thoi district as a national monument, in order to promote the revolutionary spirit of the 70th anniversary of the North and to respect the historical and cultural values ​​of the nation.

In addition, there are activities displaying images, documents, artifacts, books and newspapers related to the Geneva Agreement on the cessation of hostilities in Vietnam and the regrouping to the North in 1954.

Mr. Le Nhat Truong, Deputy Director of the Traffic Construction Project Management Board of Ca Mau province, said that the project to build a monument cluster commemorating the train to the North in 1954 has a total investment of 195 billion VND, and was started on January 2, 2024.

The project has a monumental scale (the ship is 22m long, 7m wide and the bow height is 7.2m; the ship's hull is made of reinforced concrete, painted like stone; reliefs on both sides of the ship's hull and clusters of statues are made of Granite).

Monument area floor with an area of ​​1,000m2; event area floor with an area of ​​2,000m2; overpass to the Monument area and connecting to the road along the embankment 650m long; traffic road connecting to the Monument 385m long; parking lot with an area of ​​2,000m2.
