It is known that from the end of the 16th century to the beginning of the 17th century, Hoi An was a major commercial port city of Dang Trong, an international trade transit point. Traditional crafts, including Kim Bong carpentry, Cam Kim commune (construction of architectural works, making civil woodwork and boat building) developed. Many famous artisans were invited to the capital Hue to participate in the construction of architectural works...

In November 2016, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recognized Kim Bong carpentry in Cam Kim commune as a national intangible cultural heritage.
