Many students from top universities were cheated "heavily"
The incident of a final year student (6th year) of Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine - a school with extremely difficult entrance requirements - being scammed out of 7 billion VND in an unbelievable development.

That is the trick to win a scholarship under the international student exchange program. Specifically, in this case, the female student came from a fake announcement introducing the opportunity to receive an 80% scholarship in Germany.
This notice contains a series of "alarming" contents such as requiring a statement to prove financial capacity, students need to have a balance of up to 3 billion VND.
The strangest thing about this incident is that the students even rushed into a “race” to see who was in the top 5 with the most money in their accounts… to be chosen. After many times asking her parents for money up to 7 billion VND to be in the top 5,… the female student’s account had no money left.
Before this female student, previously, also at this university, there was another case of a student being scammed out of half a billion dong with the same trick of "scholarship to study abroad".
When contacting the school, parents said they would not mind paying 500 million VND, let alone 2 billion VND, to prove that their child is studying abroad. What they want to know is what program their child will follow, how long they will be away...
It was only when the school informed that there was no such program that parents and students realized they had been deceived.
At the University of Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University), the school with the most difficult entrance exam in the country, only for good and excellent students, there was a case of students being spectacularly deceived.
According to the student's reflection, a group of strange men called to inform him that he was involved with a criminal who was trafficking drugs and illegally laundering money. They knew his exact name and ID card number, so he believed it.
When the “fake police” said that to prove innocence, you must have 120 million VND in your account and transfer that amount to them. After completing the verification documents, they will transfer the money back to you.
If you cannot prove it, you will be immediately detained and reported to the school to be forced to leave. When they found out that the student had no money, the scammers showed you how to…. ask your parents for money to prove your financial ability to study abroad in Japan.

The student followed suit, called his parents to ask for 120 million VND and followed the scammers' instructions. Only when the money was gone did he realize he had been scammed.
Using a similar trick, a student from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University) was scammed out of 200 million VND after many transfers from his parents.
Good at studying but when the wind blows… he falls apart
It is undeniable that when falling into the trap of scammers, being manipulated and psychologically led, it is very difficult to predict anything.
But with familiar scams that are constantly warned about, and absurd tricks, victims still fall into the trap, which also shows that many students lack life skills and knowledge at the most basic level.
Regarding the case of a female student who was scammed out of 7 billion VND, a representative of Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine shared that rebellious and individualistic students are not easily scammed, but students who only know how to study and are obedient all day are very likely to fall into scam traps.
According to him, many children only know how to study, go to school and then go home to close the door and continue studying. Besides books, they pay little attention to daily information, warnings, little interaction, social contact, lack skills... so they are easily fooled by old methods.
Not to mention, the children study well and are well-behaved, so their parents trust them a lot. When the children ask for money to prove that they want to study abroad, their parents believe them immediately, without any doubts.

Recently, the International University (Ho Chi Minh City National University) issued an urgent warning about fake information about scholarships to study abroad at top universities in the world such as Oxford, Manchester, Ivy League schools... targeting students with good academic results, English certificates and finances.
MSc. Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc, Head of the Communications Department of the International University (Ho Chi Minh City National University), emphasized that if students apply for scholarships, they need to find reputable sources such as the Ministry of Education and Training and the official websites of universities.
Basic skills, according to Ms. Ngoc, regarding scholarship content, students need to carefully research information sources, need to ask the school and lecturers to confirm carefully, avoid ambiguity and being cheated out of billions.
"In the age of technology, students who regularly use the Internet need to pay attention, be aware of protecting personal information and cultivate self-protection skills," said Master Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc.
In the fake scholarship announcements of the schools, the scammers openly targeted "good students" at top schools.
Fraudulent announcements often impersonate top schools, making demands such as students achieving excellent academic results, foreign language certificate requirements, etc. These are not only the subjects with the opportunity to study abroad but also the most obedient "prey" to take the bait.
Being good at studying but knowing nothing but good at studying is a reality of lack of skills in schools that has been warned about for a long time.
It's not just the story of students with certificates, achievements, this and that, entering top schools but not knowing how to cook rice, make noodles, not knowing where a water spinach is...
Now it is a scam situation, a series of life-and-death issues related to money, health, even the lives of children due to lack of skills, experience, criticism, thinking...
In the real world, sometimes just a fake scholarship announcement with enough mistakes in style, content and many unreasonable contents can lead students very far.
