Mariah Carey has just marked her 50th appearance on the Billboard Hot 100 chart as her latest single, Type Dangerous, debuted at number 95 on the chart as of June 21.
According to Billboard, the song debuted on June 6, with 2.5 million streams; 14.7 million radio plays and 5,000 US digital tracks in its first week. The diva performed Type Dangerous at the 2025 BET Awards on June 9, where she was awarded the Icon Award.
The song, co-written and co-produced by Mariah, serves as the lead single from her 16th studio album, her follow-up to 2018's Caution .
When Mariah isn't singing high
The above achievements are probably not too important to Mariah at this point. Because after 37 years, her glorious music career is likened to "deep as the ocean".
Despite her numerous Billboard Hot 100 number one singles and record-breaking releases, Mariah's other lesser-known and unreleased tracks are also hidden gems. Whatever Mariah releases at this stage is a real walk in the park.

One notable thing about Type Dangerous is that Mariah's vocals in this song no longer follow the soaring high notes that made her famous. Instead, she chooses to restrain and control her voice. Is Mariah no longer looking to show off?
In fact, Mariah's change in singing style has also been controversial. According to the Daily Mail, the singer has been embroiled in a bizarre conspiracy theory, with viewers claiming she's "been replaced by AI." They point out that "Mimi's" voice sounds different than it did before.
However, many fans still believe that she is a diva, with a different singing style to reinvent herself.
One fan wrote: "She sings it differently than what we're used to, but it's great." Another explained: "Mariah is just using a deeper voice and experimenting. She's always doing new and unique things."
True Diva, not afraid to clash with anyone
When asked by The Project about how to deal with criticism, Mariah replied simply: "The best way is not to deal with it at all."
And the best way to answer the rumors about her voice is to sing. And Mariah did just that at the Capital's Summertime Ball music festival at Wembley Stadium (London, England) on June 15.

She was the main performer and was praised for "giving her best live performance in years". Mariah brought a setlist of hits such as Fantasy, Emotions, Hero, Always Be My Baby, Type Dangerous, Touch My Body, It's Like That and We Belong Together.
However, according to The Standard, Wembley Stadium was only partially filled for Mariah's performance. The world's top diva is not at the peak of her career, but this is also quite sad.
Many fans also spoke up to defend Mariah Carey because the diva was scheduled to perform quite late while in the UK, public transport stopped operating early on Sunday evening, forcing the audience to leave.
With Mariah Carey's return, her diva moves are once again in the spotlight. Earlier this year, the diva went viral for her disapproving performance at the 2025 iHeartRadio Awards. In the aforementioned interview with The Project , she also gave extremely brief answers with an unenthusiastic face.
Most recently, on June 16, in an interview with Capital FM, Mariah declared that she does not believe in the passage of time. The diva has long said that she does not follow the concept of days, weeks or years, and also declared that she does not have birthdays - only anniversaries.
