These documents were organized by the Hoi An Cultural Heritage Management and Conservation Center in coordination with the Hoa Lo Prison Relic Management Board ( Hanoi ) to be displayed at Hoi An Prison, on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day and the 57th anniversary of the liberation of Hoi An Prison (July 14, 1967 - July 14, 2024).
“I think all these documents and images are very valuable because they not only provide information for today's generation but also contribute to making Hoi An Prison relic an attractive "red address" for locals and tourists,” Mr. Hong commented.
Hoi An Prison is a rare historical revolutionary relic in Hoi An that is visited by tourists. Mr. Nguyen Van Lanh - Vice Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee said that recently, the locality has also implemented a number of solutions to develop tourism to the source at the Bay Mau coconut forest revolutionary base (Thanh Nhut village, Cam Thanh commune). However, the organization is not systematic (only stopping at experiencing the river landscape) leading to low exploitation efficiency.
“In the near future, the city will open a separate revolutionary tourism tour connecting the coconut forest, Tra Que revolutionary base (Cam Ha commune), and include Hoi An prison in the ticket box… In general, the idea is there, now we just need to solve some problems regarding land and investment,” Mr. Lanh added.
In fact, tourism to the source is not new. In some localities, this type of tourism is very attractive to visitors. However, in Quang Nam, the exploitation efficiency is almost not commensurate.
Not only Hoi An, it is easy to see that most of the revolutionary relics in the province such as Ky Anh Tunnels, Monument of Heroic Mothers of Vietnam (Tam Ky), Zone V Party Committee (Hiep Duc), Hon Tau Base (Duy Xuyen), Central Central Vietnam - Nuoc Oa Revolutionary Historical Relic Site (Bac Tra My) ... are usually deserted. Even some places such as Zone V Party Committee or Central Central Vietnam - Nuoc Oa Revolutionary Historical Relic Site are assessed to have a lot of potential and advantages in terms of historical value and natural landscape, but they are still not able to attract tourists.
Picky
Mr. Le Quoc Viet - Chairman of Quang Nam Destination Club acknowledged that tourism back to the source has not yet received adequate investment from the locality, has not been widely promoted, and especially has not been connected in terms of traffic infrastructure.
“This type of tourism is very picky because it focuses on a specific group of people such as students, veterans, etc. International visitors are even fewer, except for a few foreign veterans who want to return to visit the old battlefield. In addition, most historical sites are far away and inconvenient for transportation, making the process of organizing and connecting tours difficult, so businesses are not interested. Not to mention, the destination brands of Hoi An and My Son are so prominent that businesses and tourists do not pay due attention to origin tourism,” Mr. Viet analyzed.
Travel businesses also believe that in order to promote the development of origin tourism in Quang Nam, the locality should choose a number of typical locations to form separate tours targeting specific groups of customers.
Historical relics are places to commemorate and pay tribute to our ancestors and those who died for national independence. Developing tourism activities here will contribute to promoting the value of the destination and educating revolutionary traditions to a segment of the population, especially the younger generations.
Mr. Van Ba Son - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism said that Quang Nam always encourages and connects tourism to the source. However, this type of tourism is quite picky, so it requires the coordination of local authorities, tourism industry and businesses, including some related departments. This connection will build a more complete product with an ecosystem of supporting services, meeting customer needs.
“There is state investment, but we have not really been able to string these points together into a complete tour. Therefore, we really need businesses to participate, and of course, there must be a source of customers for businesses to be bold,” said Mr. Son.
Synchronous solutions are proposed, the first of which is to connect traffic infrastructure. Mr. Son added that it is necessary to complete essential services as well as choose a few prominent points with convenient traffic connections to form a complete tour. In particular, it is necessary to attract businesses to boldly invest in building a chain of links from sightseeing, shopping to cultural and culinary experiences...
“Quang Nam is coordinating with the Institute for Tourism Development Research (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) to build a unified mechanism to effectively promote the value of historical and cultural relics to become educational tourism destinations,” Mr. Son added.
