An anonymous man from Meizhou, Guangdong, China shared a video on Douyin, announcing the birth of his fourth child - a son born in the year of the dragon. He and his wife already had three daughters. The wife sat in a wheelchair, holding a bouquet of flowers her husband gave her. The man knelt down in front of his wife, then hugged and kissed her, making her so moved that she covered her face and wiped away tears.

“Wife, you are about to be discharged from the hospital. You have gone through 9 months of pregnancy and labor, and you have endured all the pain alone. This is the fourth time you have risked your life for me. Thank you for making my life more complete. Three daughters and a son form the word ‘good’ in Chinese. Wife, you have fulfilled your responsibility as a mother very well,” the husband wrote.

Contrary to the man’s expectations, the post immediately caused him to face fierce criticism from the online community and attracted 67,000 interactions. Most netizens believed that if he truly loved his wife, he would not force her to risk her health and endure many difficult and painful births just to have a son.

After causing controversy on social media, the husband spoke up to defend himself. He shared with Jiupai News on February 26: "My wife has been with me for 13 years, fighting for the family four times. Kneeling before her is quite normal."

The wife also defended her husband: "I don't care about public opinion. My husband kneeling is not a performance for others to see. He understands my sacrifice."

Another video posted earlier showed that when she was in labor giving birth to her third daughter, the wife was in great pain, had difficulty walking along the hospital corridor, and had to lean on the railing. With each step, her husband gave her a few hundred yuan (100 yuan is equivalent to 340,000 VND).

The woman recounted the story related to this clip: “Two years ago, when I gave birth to my third daughter at this hospital, my husband rewarded me 2,000 yuan (6.8 million VND) to encourage me to walk more. This time, when I gave birth to my fourth child, a son, my husband directly rewarded me 10,000 yuan (34 million VND). Seeing so much money, my contractions suddenly disappeared."

She also posted a video expressing her gratitude to her husband for taking care of her during the postpartum period, not hesitating to clean her body. “These are things he never did after giving birth to three other daughters. Having a son suddenly seemed to make him appreciate my sacrifice,” the wife said.

In July 2023, the husband posted a video saying that his wife’s pregnancy with their third daughter was unexpected.
