The provincial technical innovation contest for middle and high school students is organized annually by the Departmentof Education and Training to encourage students to creatively apply the knowledge they have learned to solve life problems, promote the emulation movement of good teaching, good learning and scientific research in schools. Through the contest, the Organizing Committee will select typical projects to participate in the national science and technology contest for middle and high school students.
The 2024-2025 school year competition has 143 registered projects (including 79 high school projects and 64 middle school projects), with diverse projects in many fields. At the competition, each project built a booth to display and introduce the project, answering questions related to the idea, purpose, meaning, and importance of the project in relation to real life. Through scoring and awarding, the Organizing Committee awarded 41 Encouragement prizes; 20 Third prizes; 12 Second prizes and 5 First prizes to the winning projects.
Students Tam Phuc and Minh Loi, along with instructor Le Thi Trang, participated in the provincial technical innovation contest for middle and high school students in the 2024-2025 school year.
Participating in the 2024-2025 school year competition, Nguyen Trai High School (Trang Bang town) won 3 consolation prizes and 2 second prizes; in which, Nguyen Le Tam Phuc and Le Minh Loi (students of class 11A3) successfully researched and won second prizes. The project of these 2 students with the theme: "Using biological product Azadirachtin in Neem essential oil combined with chitosan from crustacean shells to kill and repel termites" under the guidance of teacher Le Thi Trang.
To carry out and complete this topic, the students have received support, help as well as attention and encouragement from family, teachers and friends. Scientific research is also completed based on learning from experience, referring to information, related research results, books, specialized newspapers of research organizations, reputable newspapers...
Minh Loi conducts the experiment.
Regarding this topic, Le Minh Loi shared: “Our country is located in a tropical monsoon region, with a hot and humid climate, so it is strongly affected by harmful organisms, including termites. Termites have the ability to bore through wall mortar and have a high reproductive capacity, which can cause destruction and damage such as electrical short circuits, foundation collapse, wall cracks, and plant wilting... Therefore, we have built a project with the goal of producing environmentally friendly biological termite killers from Chitosan (from used shrimp shells) and Azadirachtin activity found in Neem essential oil”.
Nguyen Le Tam Phuc said: “The science and technology competition is truly a useful playground to help me develop my talents and strengths, contributing to improving my learning results. Through the competition, I have gained a lot of practical experience for myself. For this project, I and everyone spent a lot of time collecting materials for the experiment and conducting the test. The project is highly practical and has achieved the expected results, possibly changing the methods of killing and repelling termites instead of using chemicals.”
In science and technology competitions for high school students, teachers are always the ones who accompany and guide students, inspire ideas and help them complete their projects. Teachers are assigned to support students in implementing projects and topics; regularly providing guidance to help students develop their creativity and innovate research methods. Educational institutions also promote emulation and timely rewards and encouragement to encourage students to actively participate in this useful playground.

Ms. Le Thi Trang, who guided the students in making the product, shared: “The students tried very hard in this competition. All of today's achievements are thanks to their research, exploration, learning and perseverance. To continue promoting the scientific research movement among students, the school has been promoting the implementation of an educational model that promotes learners' abilities.
It can be seen that the scientific and technical research playground not only helps to improve students' creativity, bringing high applicability in practice, but also contributes to innovating teaching methods and forms, innovating the assessment of students' learning outcomes, enhancing the organization of creative experiential educational activities in the direction of developing students' capacity and qualities, linking scientific research activities with practical life.
