Among them is Lieutenant Nguyen Thanh Luong, a professional military officer and cultural staff member of the 5th Regiment's Club. He has been involved in amateur journalism for nearly 5 years and has become a regular contributor to newspapers such as: Military Region 7, People's Army Newspaper, Tay Ninh Newspaper, etc.
Lieutenant Nguyen Thanh Luong, born in 1993, comes from a farming family in An Lap commune, Dau Tieng district, Binh Duong province. In 2018, he volunteered for military service and enlisted in Company 21, Regiment 5.
Throughout his studies and work, he consistently excelled in his duties. In 2019, his unit commander facilitated his admission to the Military University of Culture and Arts, specializing in Mass Culture and Arts. After three years of study, he graduated in 2022 and returned to his unit as a Cultural Officer at the Regiment's Club.
Lieutenant Luong's current job involves maintaining and managing the regiment's performing arts team, as well as filming, photographing, and creating video clips for central reports at conferences... sometimes, due to urgent and overlapping tasks, he has to work even during lunch breaks and evenings.
When asked about his journey into journalism, Lieutenant Nguyen Thanh Luong confided: "Since I was little, I had the habit of sitting and listening to my grandfather read the newspaper. He read slowly, his voice warm and deep, explaining to me stories about people, the country, and life through each page. Those moments planted in me a love for journalism, like a seed silently growing in my soul."
Upon entering the military environment, I became curious about how articles were written, about the power of words to touch the reader's heart. The military is a place where countless beautiful stories of camaraderie and silent sacrifices exist, making me understand even more clearly the responsibility and significance of each written page. That's how I unknowingly became involved in journalism; the more I wrote, the more attached I became to the profession.”
Although he never received any formal training or education in journalism, Luong's passion, effort, self-study, and research helped him turn his childhood dream into reality. Every time he went to the unit to take photos, film, and gather information for articles, the young soldiers would affectionately call him "Journalist Thanh Luong."
Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Manh Hien, Political Commissar of Regiment 5, said: “Luong is a sociable and cheerful person who helps his comrades in carrying out their duties. In particular, we see in Luong a spirit of enthusiastic and highly responsible work with the motto 'finish the job, not just work until the end of the shift'; therefore, we feel confident when assigning him any task.”
In addition, Luong also helped the unit promote propaganda work, spreading good models and innovative methods; highlighting good people and good deeds on mass media, which was highly appreciated by superiors.
Lieutenant Nguyen Thanh Luong recounted a memorable experience from his writing career: the first time his article, titled "Exciting and Practical 'Law Day' at Regiment 5, Division 5," was published in the Military Region 7 Newspaper.
At first, he couldn't believe his eyes. The feeling of seeing his name clearly printed at the end of the article was a mix of nervousness and indescribable elation. Afterwards, he read it over and over again countless times, then took pictures and sent them to his family, friends, comrades, and fellow soldiers, and everyone congratulated and praised him.
"That was a huge motivation, fueling my enthusiasm and making me even more confident in the path I've chosen. Journalism has allowed me to witness, experience, and reflect; to get to know many reporters, colleagues, and collaborators both inside and outside the military."
From then on, I wanted even more to live life to the fullest with that passion. Therefore, I am still trying to continue exploring, creating, and giving birth to many more intellectual "children," contributing my small part to building a strong, comprehensive, "exemplary and outstanding" unit, and a good, civilized, and developed society," shared Lieutenant Nguyen Thanh Luong.
Thanks to his efforts, determination, and effectiveness in his professional work as well as in the field of journalism and propaganda, Lieutenant Nguyen Thanh Luong has been awarded the title of Advanced Soldier and Emulation Soldier at the grassroots level by his unit commander for three consecutive years; and annually receives a certificate of commendation from the Division for outstanding achievements in internal journalism and broadcasting activities on the occasion of Vietnam Revolutionary Journalism Day. In particular, in 2023 he was awarded a certificate of commendation by the Military Region Command, winning second prize in the theatrical work category "Diary of a Soldier" in the competition for creating and disseminating literary and artistic works on the theme "Fighting the epidemic, saving the people". |
