The “VEX Robotics World Championship - 2024” competition is organized by the U.S. Diplomatic Mission in Vietnam, through the U.S. Center in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, in collaboration with STEAM for Vietnam, which includes Hanoi University of Science and Technology and the National Innovation Center (under the Ministry of Planning and Investment ).
Sharing her thoughts on this year's championship, Ms. Mary Beth Polley, Cultural and Information Counselor at the U.S. Embassy, said that in Vietnam, the VEX Robotics World Championship, first held in 2023, has attracted a large number of students from many provinces and cities across the country.

Building on its success, the 2024 tournament continues to develop critical thinking, creativity, STEM, and other essential skills for Vietnamese students to compete effectively in the global market – a key objective within the framework of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
This highly practical program has been invaluable in encouraging Vietnamese students to develop the skills necessary to succeed in the rapidly evolving global economy .
“We are delighted to be collaborating with the Ministry of Planning and Investment and Hanoi University of Science and Technology on this program. This reflects the strong comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries and our shared commitment to bringing economic prosperity to both nations,” emphasized Mary Beth Polley.
The 2024 VEX Robotics National Championship is an open forum for all robotics enthusiasts nationwide, regardless of gender, ethnicity, or geography. Organized according to the standards of the REC Foundation, the competition aims to select 10 Vietnamese teams that qualify to participate in the world's largest robotics competition – the 2024 VEX Robotics World Championship in Dallas, Texas.
This year's championship attracted 250 teams from 31 provinces and cities across Vietnam, with nearly 1,400 students participating. The teams will compete in a total of 2,208 matches for the VEX IQ category and 281 matches for the VEX V5 category, with challenges including: Teamwork Challenge, Driving Skills Challenge, and Programming Skills Challenge.
It is expected that more than 2,000 fans will watch the matches live at the National Innovation Center (NIC) in Hoa Lac, and over 20,000 fans will follow them on online platforms.

Through this tournament, students across Vietnam gain experiences and skills that will significantly contribute to inclusive economic growth based on innovation. To evaluate a large number of matches, as well as select the winners and representatives from Vietnam to compete at the VEX Robot World Championship in the United States, the judging panel consists of leading experts in robotics and STEAM education from Hanoi University of Science and Technology, University of Technology, Fulbright University, and many other prestigious organizations.
Dr. Tran Viet Hung, co-founder of STEAM for Vietnam, shared: "This event is an opportunity for students from all regions of Vietnam to learn and participate in challenges similar to those faced by students in developed countries like the United States. Hopefully, through experiences like this competition, they will gradually acquire the skills and experience to compete in the global job market in the future.”
The VEX Robotics World Championship is an annual international robotics competition held in the United States, recognized as the world's largest robotics competition by the Guinness World Records in 2018. The VEX Robotics World Championship is organized by the Robotics Education & Competition (REC) Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on STEM and sustainability projects. Each year, the competition attracts over 100,000 participants from around the world.
The American Centers in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, under the auspices of the U.S. Diplomatic Mission in Vietnam, are spaces open to the public. The center helps build personal and online connections with the United States by providing access to information about the U.S., English language learning, U.S. educational counseling, cutting-edge technologies, exchange programs, and diverse events in a safe and friendly environment. The STEAM for Vietnam Foundation is a US-based non-profit organization with a mission to promote STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) education in Vietnam. The STEAM for Vietnam Foundation was founded by Vietnamese alumni who studied in the US and is run by a network of volunteer professionals, including Vietnamese experts and members of the Vietnam Innovation Network worldwide, who aspire to contribute to the development of the younger generation in Vietnam by sharing knowledge about STEAM education. |
