The Asian Mathematical Olympiad (AIMO) was first organized in 2012 by the Asian Mathematical Olympiad Committee, with the annual participation of approximately 150,000 students from more than 20 countries and territories.
Vietnam officially participated in AIMO in 2019 and quickly affirmed its position with more than 220 international medals; in 2025 alone, Vietnam achieved its highest achievement ever with 1 Championship, 10 Gold Medals, 7 Silver Medals and 4 Bronze Medals, affirming Vietnamese intelligence on the international Mathematics map.
Under the direction of the Central Youth Union, the contest is organized by Tien Phong Newspaper and Hanoi University of Science and Technology. The contest's advisory board includes professors, associate professors, doctors and prestigious mathematics experts at home and abroad.
AIMO for the 2025-2026 school year is designed with a dual goal of continuing to nurture the love of Mathematics and the desire to explore knowledge in high school students, considering Mathematics not just as a score on paper but as a tool to understand the world and solve practical problems. At the same time, it focuses on equipping core competencies of global citizens: logical thinking, analysis and coherent reasoning; the ability to apply and connect Math knowledge with technology fields; and the ability to use academic foreign languages to access international knowledge. The experience of taking tests and presenting in English helps candidates practice academic language - an important skill when entering the international university and research environment.
