This year's preliminary round of the exam consists of 3 sessions: Session 1 on November 23, 2025; Session 2 on Sunday, December 7, 2025; and Session 3 (the final session) on Sunday, February 1, 2026.

Each candidate is only allowed to participate in one exam session. Candidates who took the first exam session are not allowed to retake it in subsequent sessions.

The Asian Mathematical Olympiad (AIMO) was first organized in 2012 by the Asian Mathematical Olympiad Committee, with the annual participation of approximately 150,000 students from more than 20 countries and territories.

Vietnam officially joined AIMO in 2019 and quickly established its position with over 220 international medals; in 2025 alone, Vietnam achieved its highest ever results with 1 Championship, 10 Gold Medals, 7 Silver Medals, and 4 Bronze Medals, affirming Vietnamese intelligence on the international mathematics map.

Under the direction of the Central Committee of the Youth Union, the competition is organized by Tien Phong Newspaper and Hanoi University of Science and Technology. The competition's advisory board includes professors, associate professors, doctors, and reputable mathematics experts from both within and outside the country.

The AIMO for the 2025-2026 academic year is designed with a dual objective: to continue fostering a love of mathematics and a thirst for knowledge among high school students, viewing mathematics not just as a score on paper, but as a tool to understand the world and solve practical problems. Simultaneously, it emphasizes equipping students with core competencies of global citizens: logical thinking, analysis, and coherent reasoning; the ability to apply and connect mathematical knowledge with technological fields; and the ability to use academic foreign languages to access international knowledge. The experience of completing and presenting in English helps candidates hone their academic language skills – a crucial skill for entering university and international research environments.
