In Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day is held from April 19 to 23 with the message: "Books: Awareness - Innovation - Creativity"; "Books for me, for you"; "Every citizen is an ambassador of reading culture". Book and Reading Culture Day in Ho Chi Minh City has about 100 activities organized in all districts of the city. Of which, the Book Fair is expected to be held at Cong Xa Paris Square and Nguyen Van Binh Book Street (District 1) with nearly 80 activities...
When it became the National Book Day and was held regularly, it was clear that books and reading culture had proven their importance to the country's development. Reading is the way to the treasure trove of human knowledge, for each individual to enrich their knowledge. For many reasons and historical circumstances, the rate of book readers as well as the number of books that Vietnamese people read each year are among the lowest in the world . That is an unhappy number when in 2022, on average, each Vietnamese person only read 2.8 books and 7.07 newspapers. Looking abroad, that rate is very high in Israel, Japan, India, Germany... and even Thailand, Malaysia. Taking the subway or going to tourist areas, parks..., it is easy to see that many people in these countries read books when they are free and relaxing.
Of course, there is also the family factor. Many Vietnamese families prefer to decorate wine cabinets and karaoke systems rather than a small bookcase, and parents do not know how to give their children the precious gift of a habit and passion for reading. Another impact is the development of social networks and audio-visual media that takes up more and more people's time, fading the habit of reading and pushing many people away from the pages of books every day... But fortunately, there are still many families that maintain the tradition and culture of reading for their members, passing on the passion for books to the next generations.

Reading culture is like a stream that flows tirelessly, sometimes quietly, sometimes loudly, to confidently reach the long river and the wide ocean. From habits and interests, it needs more education from schools and support from society to enrich knowledge through reading, gradually becoming a reading culture, spreading widely and persistently. From there, it contributes to building personality, educating lifestyle and inspiring creativity for each individual, contributing to building an increasingly civilized and prosperous society.
In the digital age, awakening the love of the young generation for each page of books is not easy, but it is not impossible when life values are conveyed faster, are absorbed and absorbed deeply. It is a long, continuous journey, which will be successful if the community joins hands and each individual maintains the habit of reading, fostering the love of books; is the foundation for building a learning society; and nurtures beliefs and noble ideals.
From that perspective, books and reading culture have a noble mission. Faith has been lit, the remaining thing is how to walk on the journey of enlightenment, enriching the knowledge of each person and contributing to building a strong and rich country.
