National U20 Futsal Tournament 2023 kicks off

The U20 Futsal tournament in Vietnam took place from August 16 to 24, with the participation of eight teams divided into two groups: Thai Son Nam Ho Chi Minh City, Tan Hiep Hung, Hanoi and FI PVOIL (Group A); Sahako, Thai Son Bac, Cao Bang and Tan Tru (Group B). The teams in each group competed in a round-robin format to calculate the ranking points, selecting the two teams ranked first and second to play in the semi-finals, followed by the third-place match and the final.

The tournament is an opportunity to find new talents for Futsal in the country.

In the first match of Group A, U20 Thai Son Bac and U20 Cao Bang showed their superiority when they both won with a score of 6-1 against U20 Sahako and U20 Tan Tru respectively. In Group B, Thai Son Nam TP.HCM and Tan Hiep Hung drew 1-1, while Hanoi and FI PVOIL also shared points in a match with 4 goals scored.

The 2023 National U20 Futsal Tournament is aimed at creating a successor resource for the development of Vietnamese Futsal Clubs, while also discovering, selecting and training young talents to serve the national Futsal team towards future goals.

Over the years, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has made great efforts to ensure that Vietnamese football can participate in all tournaments organized by FIFA, AFC and AFF, especially the youth tournament system. For Futsal, VFF has also established the Vietnam U20 Futsal team to participate in international competitions since 2016 until now, striving to regularly win a place in the AFC U20 Futsal Championship, thereby forming a force of successor players for the national Futsal team.

With that meaning, organizing a separate tournament for U20 Futsal players is considered an important step to encourage domestic Futsal clubs to invest more heavily in youth training, attracting young talents who love Futsal to have the opportunity to come to Futsal and become professional Futsal players, thereby creating resources for the overall development of Vietnamese Futsal.
