On the morning of June 12, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thanh Hoa in coordination with the General Department of Sports and Physical Training (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) and the Vietnam Taekwondo Federation held the opening ceremony of the 2023 National Taekwondo Championship.
Nearly 500 athletes and coaches from 37 delegations competed in the tournament.
Attending the ceremony were Comrade Dau Thanh Tung, Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province; representatives of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training, leaders of the Vietnam Taekwondo Federation; leaders of provincial departments, agencies and the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa city.
Deputy Director of Thanh Hoa Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Duy Tu delivered the opening speech.
President of Vietnam Taekwondo Federation Truong Ngoc De delivered a welcoming speech.
This year's tournament has nearly 500 athletes and coaches from 36 provinces, cities and sectors nationwide. This is the most important and largest tournament of the year for taekwondo. Athletes compete in 29 events (29 sets of medals), including 18 individual weight categories for men and women; 3 team events including: women's team, men's team, mixed team, men and women; 4 standard forms and 4 creative forms.
Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Dau Thanh Tung presented souvenir flags to the participating delegations.

The entire tournament took place at Thanh Hoa Provincial Sports Center. The medal races are expected to be exciting and fierce as all delegations are well prepared in terms of expertise and athletes.

Thanh Hoa Taekwondo team participated in the tournament with 10 athletes, competing in individual men's, women's and team combat. The host team's forces participating in the tournament this year are mainly young athletes who have recently come of age. Besides, there is the presence of key athletes Nguyen Thi Huong (73 kg weight class), Pham Ngoc Cham (67 kg women's weight class).
At the 2022 tournament within the framework of the 9th National Sports Congress, Thanh Hoa Taekwondo won 1 silver medal and 3 bronze medals.

As the host, Thanh Hoa province has ensured the conditions of facilities and equipment for competition and organization of the tournament; at the same time, arranged forces to ensure security - order, food safety and hygiene, medical work, epidemic prevention... for the tournament to be a great success.
The 2023 National Taekwondo Championship is considered an important assessment to evaluate the training and coaching work of provinces, cities and sectors across the country, and is also an important basis for the national Taekwondo team to select and supplement excellent athletes to prepare for upcoming major tournaments, especially the 19th Asian Games - ASIAD.
The competition will be concluded, awarded and closed on June 16.
