Long An province always pays attention to and closely directs fire prevention and fighting (PCCC), considering this an important and regular task. In particular, the requirement is to absolutely not be subjective, negligent or fall into a passive position, but to promote a proactive spirit, raise vigilance and strengthen preventive measures right from the grassroots.

Fire hazard still lurking

In just over the past month, the province has recorded a number of factory and warehouse fires, causing significant property damage. This shows that the risk of fire is still latent, lurking and can happen at any time.

On March 30, 2025, a major fire broke out at Rach Chanh Rice Mill (Hamlet 1, My Phu Commune, Thu Thua District). The fire broke out fiercely in a warehouse of about 600m², causing the corrugated iron roof to warp and collapse to the ground. Fortunately, there were no casualties.

Many factory employees and professional firefighters had a hard time extinguishing the fire. Nguyen Van Phuong, a resident living near the area, said: “The weather was too hot and the goods were flammable, so the fire spread very quickly. It took the help of specialized equipment for the firefighters to control the fire .”

Not long after the above incident, at around 7:50 p.m. on April 19, 2025, a large fire broke out at the factory of Doanh Dieu Shoe Company Limited (Thuan Dao Industrial Park Expansion, Long Dinh Commune, Can Duoc District). In a short time, the fire broke out and spread widely, with high smoke making firefighting difficult.

The provincial police quickly mobilized 4 specialized fire trucks, 25 officers and soldiers of the Fire Fighting and Rescue Team (CNCH) stationed in Tan An City and Ben Luc District to the scene to put out the fire. In addition, 24 people and 3 fire trucks from fire fighting teams of industrial parks: Vinh Loc 2, Thuan Dao, Nhut Chanh participated in the fire fighting. After nearly two hours of effort, the fire was extinguished but the 3,000m² factory was burned and many machines and materials were seriously damaged.

Most recently, on April 27, 2025, a fire broke out at the semi-finished product warehouse of TAVINA Plastic Trading and Production Company Limited (Hamlet 5, Duc Hoa Dong Commune, Duc Hoa District). The fire then spread to the adjacent warehouse. The total area of the warehouse burned was up to 660m² before the authorities promptly controlled and extinguished it about 30 minutes later.

“Everything happened so fast and so dangerously” - workers and people who witnessed the fire at TAVINA Plastic Production and Trading Company Limited said in shock. Mr. Nguyen Van Tien, who was near the fire area, still not over his fear, recounted: “In just a few minutes, black smoke billowed high, the fire spread quickly to the warehouse area, emitting terrible heat, making it extremely difficult to approach and put out the fire.”

Proactive response, raising community awareness

Not only factories, residential areas, boarding houses, especially traditional markets and shopping malls, fire prevention and fighting issues must be given special attention. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa - a trader at Tan An market (Tan An city), said: "Small traders often remind each other to check electrical wires, gas stoves, and not burn votive paper in kiosks, but they are still very worried, sometimes just a little carelessness can cause a fire to break out at any time."

During the hot weather, the risk of fire is high, the Provincial People's Committee and the Provincial Police regularly direct the implementation of many drastic measures to ensure fire safety and rescue. Information from the Fire Police Department - Rescue, Provincial Police, the unit maintains the on-duty regime, organizes surprise inspections in high-risk areas. Facilities that do not ensure fire safety conditions will be strictly handled and suspended.

In addition, propaganda and fire prevention skills training for people will also be promoted. Firefighting practice sessions, on-site first aid training, and incident handling will be held in residential areas, schools, and industrial parks.

The Electricity Industry has also been directed to coordinate with the police force to inspect and guide people to use electricity and electrical equipment safely, especially devices using Li-ion batteries which can easily cause fire or explosion if used incorrectly or overheated. In a recent directive, the Provincial People's Committee also emphasized that it will strictly handle the responsibility of the head if a fire or explosion occurs due to negligence in management. Not being passive in the face of "fire" is not only a slogan and a requirement but also an urgent task of the entire political system and society to protect lives, property and sustainable development.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan (Ward 4, Tan An City) said that, in addition to promoting propaganda, maintaining a regular inspection regime and strictly handling violations of fire prevention and fighting to create deterrence is extremely necessary. Thereby, it will contribute to influencing and raising awareness of compliance with fire prevention and fighting laws in the community. According to Mr. Tuan, in the current extreme weather conditions, ensuring fire prevention and fighting safety is not only the responsibility of the authorities but also requires the initiative and high awareness of prevention from people and businesses.

Everyone needs to raise their vigilance and regularly check electrical equipment and gas systems, strictly follow fire prevention regulations at home and work, etc. These are practical actions to protect health, life, property and sustainable development./.
